As great as this was in the eighties and for some in the early nineties, the majority of the old Atari games have not aged that well, IMO. Definitely not commanding that price.

Disagree. 7800 games are pretty good - equivalent to NES or early DOS games. There's just not a lot of them. If you have some old 7800 carts, it's a good way to play them again. There are TONS of 2600 games too but those probably haven't aged as well.

Maybe comparable to the original nes that came out in 1987 but this is worth $20 on a good day!

It's another 10% off if you use the Woot app (Saturday 3/1 only), so $76.49. Tempting...

Great idea! Alternatively, go to online sites that host emulated versions for free.

Wait, am I missing something? This only comes with one game?? They couldn't at least put in the original 7800 games? I'm an Atari fanboy but what a niche doorstop boat anchor product, may as well pick up a used original 7800.

It has a cartridge slot that accepts 7800 games, both original and new rereleased games. But it is entirely emulating the old system on a modern ARM CPU. So when you plug a cartridge in, there is lag as it transfers the whole ROM to local memory. With OG cartridges, the transfer times are slow and noticeable by modern standards. So unless you have old cartridges lying around and no system to plug them into, then this is probably worth the purchase. Otherwise, you can simply play these through emulation on any modern computer, phone or tablet.

Who the hell even has the cartridges for it anymore? Should just come pre-loaded already!

There are quite a few Atari fans that still buy consoles. However, it seems that the number is dwindling. It did not help that they punted on the VCS.

Completely agree, I have those original cartridges but also a couple original 7800's. Those old carts MAYBE can play with their aging corroded contacts. I think I am their demographic but still have no interest in picking up this system.
