Hold up. Ace Hardware's and even Craftsman's product description [craftsman.com] says SAE, but I have this very similar [craftsman.com] one I got for the same deal price ($79). Mine comes with both SAE and metric sockets.

Both items look exactly the same, even the photos of all the items in the toolbox are the same.

I think Craftsman updated the manufacturer SKU but messed up the description/specs. It most likely comes with metric sockets.

EDIT: There were some subtle differences in the two items, actually. This newer one has labels next to the sockets, probably for easier identification.

CONFIRMED: Photo of the box (with the accurate manufacturer SKU) shows it comes with both SAE and Metric sockets.

Are you guys really complaining that it comes in a steel toolbox? In 50 years the toolbox itself will be a worth displaying while I don't know a single person who's displaying their blow-molded tool box.

I'm not sure why it says SAE only. The same set at Acme (for MSRP) has better pictures showing it includes metric.
Also country of origin: Taiwan

Should come in a bundle with a "way-back" Time Machine, preset to -60 years.

So as a tool newbie….is this worth getting? Or are there better tool sets? Primarily for car repairs at home

For the price, you cannot go wrong with this set.
Throw some wrenches, screwdrivers and c-clamps in the top and you will have a portable car maintenance set.

The tool box alone costs-$40 on sale, and is $65 right now at Lowe's.

Probably so. I just found my dad's the 40+ year old version last week that I remember when growing up, and it is still in great shape. was on here looking for replacement pieces I might or might not have lost in 1986. If the box is same quality I'd take another instead

Of course, back then we drove to the Sears to pick it up, or change it out if it failed. Getting more of the brake pad warranty feeling than the Craftsman lifetime warm and fuzzies that I knew would be covered before they got bought out.

It's a good set - just know that the value is in the Craftsman branding and nice steel case. You can easily find a more comprehensive set of tools for half the price or less.

But for this case and this brand, yes, solid deal here.

Thank you for the replies to my question above. Just curious outside of the steel toolbox, how do you compare this to the below Craftsman deal on Amazon,

A few things
CMMT45104 is SAE and Metric
The box alone is worth $45
This is a basic set of tools. Very basic.
There is a small niche for this to be a good starter set for a teen or a first time homeowner who just needs a quality set to put together the kids bike etc
Metal tool box is better than plastic anywhere actual work is being done

If this fits your use case, grab one of these screwdriver bit sets to match for $16

The only reason this is a Slick Deal is because of the steel 3-drawer chest. So is a good starter set just to get the tool box. Then you can build on it and add other pieces, like combination wrenches, over time.

Normally I'm negative on sets that have very limited selections of deep sockets as I use them a lot on cars. Often a standard socket doesn't give the ratchet enough clearance but an extension can be too long to fit. However, this set might be an exception because it actually allowed you to grow without rebuying a bunch of sockets. So the first plus is the box which has lots of growth space. Second, no wrenches so you can get a complete set rather than having a few sizes that aren't enough and will be included with any set of wrenches you end up buying. This does have a reasonably complete set of shallow sockets and 1/4 drive deep. Add a set of 3/8 deep and/or a 1" 3/8 drive extension (for those times a 3/8 shallow is too shallow but adding a 3" extension is too long) and you will have a decent foundation. Just keep in mind if you start to really work on cars you will want more tools. This box gives you decent room to grow. Also keep in mind that once you load this up it will be heavy. My dad once noted that this size box, when loaded, was about as big as you could reasonably carry. I would agree as once you add wrenches, pliers, deep sockets etc.
