Buying a single insulated mug like this that you use constantly throughout the day for years on end is reasonable, and there really isn't a difference between a $10 or $50 purchase price when you spread it out over that time. The problem is that some people will buy 12 of these things and cycle through them constantly, throwing them in the dishwasher and dramatically shortening their lifespan and largely negating the reduce/reuse/recycle impact that they have. Sure, they say these are "dishwasher safe" because of the fact that they won't instantly stop working after one wash, but they absolutely are quickly negatively affected after a few washes and all these brands are happy to sell you a new one 8 months down the line.

There's nothing wrong with buying one of these with a couple extra straws (personally I hate straws, but some people love them), carefully hand washing the mug and getting years of use out of them. What society has been gaslit into thinking is normal is buying seasonal colors of something that's supposed to last for years and accessorizing a water bottle.

Agree 100%. It's the same people who spend $5-7 every day at Starbucks. They have more money than common sense.

Agreed, these look almost exactly like the Ozark 40s at Walmart that start at $9

I've had both, and you really do get what you pay for. Typically those cheaper ones skimp in the insulation, and are aluminum vs. steel. Stanley's and similar really do hold ice all day, not so much with the budget versions.

Have to agree w/ you. Today's society needs to always update to the newest version of whatever. This cup is made w/ same quality Stanely has been known for, for years. My in laws still have one of those metal & green thermoses with the screw on cup that has to be at least 50 yrs old if not more & still in great shape. If these are taken care of the way instructed to, they will last for years, compared to less expense ones. I just decided it was time to invest in something a little more substantial that will give me many years of use, this saving in the long run as well as helping the environment.

Oh and the Crystal Clear Night one is now out of stock.

are people done with this fad yet? staney makes pretty poor quality lids that keep shedding microplastics in their original green thermos. I've had to just use a teapot lid flipped over to keep using it

People don't buy that many Stanleys anymore. It was just a Tik Tok trend thats no longer trending.

I am in the market looking for a water bottle for my lil swimmer....are these leak proof? or do they need to be vertical all the time to prevent accidental leaks?

I had the Ozark mug. Its handle came loose in the first week ultimately breaking away within 6 months. Never kept drinks hot or cold as claimed. Straw was half silicone and half plastic and the lid never aligned in the right way with the main body. I can go on but the Ozark is not the same as a Stanley.

Wait, how are they negatively affected by the dishwasher?

You definitely need to keep these upright if you use the straw lid that comes with this. Some people will purchase a different lid where the straw piece folds down to make it leak proof (kind of like the lid on a Hydrojug), but this is an extra cost of course. You'll also see people buying straw caps. I thought this was to prevent leaks so I bought one too. But it still leaks if not kept upright, lol.

Respectfully how does the dishwasher mess these up? I got one like a year ago and put it on the bottom rack every week or two with no issues. Mine has a couple paint chips but I suspect that's from being rougher with it rather than the dishwasher.
