I purchased this recently this after writing it off for likely not being a good idea. ChargerLab did a nice tear down of it here: https://youtu.be/siEEZ6Wxkik
It works as advertised and doesn't overheat.

see that box at the Y split, there is circuitry in there to manage the power distribution, and has something to deal with the data transfer even if it is to only one of the devices, this is more than "just a cable". $18 is not an unreasonable price for something like this, esp by Anker.

It supports PPS pass-through for a single device, but not two

PPS is required for Samsung super fast charging

Have one of these. Works fine so far.

While Anker's product quality had been going downhill in recent years, this one seems to be holding up fine so far in my travels.

Anyone know if this will pass audio? I'd love to be able to use this for plugging into a DAC/AMP while also providing power to my Steamdeck. I'd plug one of the two cables into my Dac/Amp, the other into my deck, and the power cable into a charger. The idea would be to pass audio through the cable AND a charge.

this looks to be only for power/charging and not for data. It would be interesting if this could act as a hub and plug 2 separate things into 1 like a hard drive for both to utilize. but given this can output 140w I would assume its meant for only charging purposes since it doesnt seem to have the other wiring inside the heatshield for data

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. I would love a cable that would work for my use case above.
I appreciate the reply!

off topic but i have something similar to what you want but it wont provide charging. it works well for my use case scenario since I can switch between devices with everything plugged in like my microphone, webcam and mechanical keyboard and mouse between 2 devices. works well with my ipad and also laptop and desktop

Have one, very nice cable and convenient when needing to charge two devices simultaneously, but dang does it feel overpriced. $18 for a cable just seems like too much.

How does it negotiate different voltages for 2 devices with one cable?

I assume there's a chip in the split segment that negotiates PD.

I doubt it. On the product page it shows that charging 2 Samsung S24's only allocates 27W total for both of them, and doing an S24 and an iPhone only provide 13.5W to the S24.

Per the description image in Amazon it supports 480 Mbps on "one-to-one" transmission. Seems like only the first device receives data and second device is power only.
