Yours leaves 1/2" of water, one posted is only 1/16". This is a BIG difference in a big area.

So, when yours is done, you are still waking in water. Yet 1/16" can be collected with a rag..

There is no auto shutoff. Why is it so expensive for one that has that feature?

Thanks for pointing out the lack of auto-shutoff. Hard pass because of this lack of a necessary feature.

Can attest that it was worked well for me to drain yard water after heavy rains. Yes, there is no auto shut off but it takes a garden hose to drain water instead of buying bigger hoses.

i have a 2 1/2" shop vac for draining the top of my pool after winter (melted ice on the cover), think this'll do a better job or just stick with my shopvac?
I help out my buddies pool business often, installing, winterizing, and opening inground and above ground pools. I think I helped him close 85 pools last year and I didn't help with all the pools.

Here is my .02, it depends. If you have a lot of leaves, a pump is just going to get constantly clogged unless you remove the leaves (and debris). If you don't, you can burn the pump out (and this is a tiny pump). Since the pump goes to either a 3/4 or 5/8 inch hose, that can clog too and it is a PITA. We use no less than 1/4 hp small submersibles, but normally at least 1/2hp. A shop vac won't care about the leaves and debris. We use several methods depending on how bad it is, and some are quite horrible. Most of the really bad ones we have to remove the leaves first, then we pump and shop vac, then we push pull the tarp (pool cover). A work around for clogging pumps is to put them in a lightweight milk crate (please make sure to attach the pump to the crate with some rope), which will create a standoff and help to keep the leaves from being sucked up. It isn't foolproof, but you can buy a 1/4-1/2 hp submersible and a cheap crate for way less than this pump. If it is just water, think about just throwing a piece of garden hose on there and let it hang off the side and self drain for a day then come back to it.

Oh, and on a side note, if this happens a lot buy bigger pillows (inflatable in center of pool under tarp) or buy two pillows. We had a customer that wanted a pillow pyramid under their tarp for their pool last year. We laughed, but they were paying so we did it.

Fair point, depends on your task. I use the one I linked for a hot tub.
