It's mainly internal changes, such as the springs in the triggers being 40mm instead of 30mm. You really won't feel/see any difference unless you take it apart.

Yes. Either that or order new and return broken. There is no serial # on the box that ties to the controller.

Sony learned from Nintendo that if they produce crappy controllers, they can make more money. So they're essentially forcing our hand, since they won't service them

Kudos to Nintendo for fixing for free

What's V2 about it? Or is V2 a way to differentiate standard color controller from variants?

There is no actually, later controllers the trigger cables are different and they have less screws than a bdm-010 that uses them to secure the touchpad. They are roughly the same all around the changes to the ribbons are minor. Less capacitors near the thumbsticks in later revisions makes the swap easier but they all use the same thumbstick module from Alps, you can replace them with Hallpi, GuliKit, or Ginfull TMR but soldering experience is needed.

I am not in a hurry to get another controller, is this the best price to get one? What is a good price to pull the trigger on?
This is a pretty good price. I think I paid $50 for Black Friday a couple years ago

Wooo nice return fraud!

I've never had stick drift except on gamecube when you boot the system with the stick tilted. I've played hundreds of hours of switch and ps5. My family member has some insane like 1600 hours in animal crossing on a switch lite and no drift. Idk what people do to them.
I have had 2 controls came from Sony brand new both got stick drift in under 2 years for the price thats bullshit

Ever since I experienced "stick drift" 1 month out of warranty, I made it my personal goal to learn how to replace the joysticks with Hall Effect or TMR joysticks.

Agree with the previous comments that YouTube videos make it look easy. It's not. I thought I knew how to solder, but with the industry using lead-free solder it's a lot different than what I learned.

However, after messing up 1 controller, investing in some better equipment, and watching tons of videos and reading Reddit....I've successfully done about a dozen controllers.

Some people have zero problems with stick drift, others have several controllers with drift. It's a crap shoot. If you only have a few controllers, it's probably worth it to pay someone to replace them for you (lots of eBay listing and Facebook marketplace people offereing their services). I mainly learned to also help other gamers in my community.

they all went up in price, even the v1 for black friday 2024. stupid things were on sale for 55? used to be 50 on sale but full retail went up to 75 instead of 70 too... so this might be last/2nd chance until a while. i doubt they will go under 55 again. my question is why is lenovo selling dz?

Does this one also include joysticks that are made to break in order for me to buy a new one in a year?

Glad you've been lucky, I guess. Between three switch consoles in my family (and extended), I've had to do returns on about 5 joycons. Drift on those seem to be an inevitability.

I'm now up to one PS5 controller with crazy stick drift as well. Prior to this last console generation, I've never had a single problem with controllers.

its doable i would not recommend it. they used high temp solder tin. i attempted it and was unsuccessful it undid the brass contacts on the joints because of the heat. i bought those anti drift boards that solder right on top of the pins. its been working well so far.
Oh, that's why I couldn't do it 🙃 they run that solder all the way through the PCB nodes top to bottom as well, there's 0 chance of getting those things out of there.

I have never soldered before and just changed 3 sets of joysticks. Get a heat gun and solder pump it makes taking the old sticks off easier.Don't forget to calibrate after.
try a solder wick.

Nice, did not know this was even possible. Desoldering the OG sticks looks like a pain from the YT videos but otherwise quite doable.
I tried but it worked for couple weeks then stopped working so figured maybe easier to buy dualsense edge one, have not decided thou
