note this is the older version.

newer version Palma 2 is $85 more for:

* Fingerprint sensor
* Android 13 vs 11
* Faster core processor
I've seen a lot of reports about Boox devices randomly breaking while sitting unused on tables and then support claims it was user caused damage and won't warranty them. I don't think I would consider buying one of these unless they offer a warranty that covered accidental damage, and then I'd factor that in to the price. There have been a lot of people looking to buy ereaders recently with Amazon's changes, and Boox's quality control and predatory warranty gateways seems to be hindering their customer adoption rate.

I don't believe so. I placed an order and it was 199 plus tax (no shipping).

I have one of these (the second version) and I love it, I actually am on my phone a lot less now thanks to it.

Unless it's shipping direct from China it wouldn't be subject to any "hidden" costs, and even if it is, as of now the "de minimis" 800 minimum limit is in effect again. Supposedly it's going away but they don't have the resources to enforce it as of now. Hopefully they realize what a waste it would be tbh.

cant you just make any android/iphone display monochromatic and get the same "effect"?
The screen on this is a completely different technology than the screen on your phone.

I'd be like saying that if you dye water black it will taste like Coca Cola.

Not as easy on the eyes, presumably this also has way better battery life as e-ink only uses power when refreshing the screen.

No E-paper only uses a tiny bit of electricity when changing the contents on the screen. Once set, the contents stays on that screen without need for more eletricity. There's also no backlight so you can't use it in the dark. It looks very much like printed text on paper. These are very light and one charge can last months. Good if you really like reading and don't want to drain your phone.
And no, you can't watch youtube on it. The refresh rate is horrible

Possible to use this as your daily phone? Any ideas? Always on WiFi, Google voice number? Using mostly online chat? Does it seem feasible or just a hassle? Would love to disconnect from being on the mobile all the time.

I think it would be more of a hassle than it's worth. I do have a Palma for reading and listening to audiobooks and podcasts and I love it!
