I really want one of these, but i also would like to be able to write, take notes and anotate epub. pdf documents as well. Still a great device for limiting phone use and detoxing from all the instant notifications.

Why is this priced the same as larger ereaders? It's overpriced.

cant you just make any android/iphone display monochromatic and get the same "effect"?
No. You cannot. Eink doesnt emit light. It reflects light. Regular devices emit light that is not the best for your eyes.

Possible to use this as your daily phone? Any ideas? Always on WiFi, Google voice number? Using mostly online chat? Does it seem feasible or just a hassle? Would love to disconnect from being on the mobile all the time.
No, no sim. I guess maybe if you never leave the comfort of wifi.

If I wanted an e-reader, I would look to Kobo. Although to my surprise B&N Nook [wikipedia.org] is still being made.
Me too, I thought they'd gotten rid of the eInk readers years ago and just did tablets.

To get a similar effect, you can adjust accessibility settings in android to go more black and white, then apply a matte screen film from photodon.com.

But, there remains a difference due to the nature of eink vs lcd/oled displays.

Eink reflects ambient light off physical ink particles, so simliar to light reflecting off books. Doesn't need a backlight, and the eyes notice the softer light reflecting off eink displays. No flicker.

Lcd/oled. Light emminates from the display, and the constant refresh of the the screen and light level pwm modulation often causes eye strain, even headaches for some users. Glossy screen results in sharp, uncomfortable glare.

I second the quality issues. I love the device, it's capabilities and have several of them, but while writing on mine the screen cracked. Support immediately blamed me, 1/2 the orig cost to fix.

Look at this as a: android tablet with eink screen.
If you want to go "minimalistic" it offers a good alternative. However the customer service they have at Amazon is better.

It could be your adblocker. I usually have to disable to open any external link on SD because of the redirect used.

I've seen a lot of reports about Boox devices randomly breaking while sitting unused on tables and then support claims it was user caused damage and won't warranty them. I don't think I would consider buying one of these unless they offer a warranty that covered accidental damage, and then I'd factor that in to the price. There have been a lot of people looking to buy ereaders recently with Amazon's changes, and Boox's quality control and predatory warranty gateways seems to be hindering their customer adoption rate.

Amazon got rid of the ability to download ebooks if you want to use them on non-Kindle devices (or even just other Kindles). See https://www.theverge.com/news/612...ansfer-usb
