Thru maple neck is nice. Poplar is a pretty light/cheap guitar body material. Basic pickups.
For the price can't be beat if you need a real floyd rose guitar and are just playing filthy distortion anyways, but Adorama policies aren't going to match sweetwater.

I'm looking for a guitar to learn on. I was initially looking for something under $300, but I love the look of this one, and I like the sound of Jacksons I've heard. And extra $80 isn't too much of a stretch, but I've read a lot of things advising against newbies getting a first guitar with a tremolo because it complicates tuning and adds distractions/variables.

What do you all think? Should I pass and get a more basic, beginner friendly model? Or is the newbie tremolo complexity overhyped?

Edit: For clarity, I don't really care about using the tremolo, at least not initially. Rather, wondering if it should stop me from getting this to learn on.

There's truth to it, but if you buy this, you're not going to have to buy an 'upgrade' guitar later for a good while.

Not sure how much experience you have with Floyd Rose, guitars, but they're learnable if you have the patience to set them up. Installinf a trem stabilizer or a trem stopper is pretty helpful to tame the tuning issues. If you want a true float though, it just takes learning to set up.

Not everyone is a fan of the chalky looking Indian laurel fretboard. You can find rosewood, roasted maple or even Ebony in this price range.

I've never had FR guitar, but from experience with other vibrato bridges, I would say that they'll complicate things for a beginner, especially if you are into string bending. And FR is among hardest to setup well and fine tuning from the bridge can be inconvenient.
Maybe watch couple Floyd Rose setup and tuning videos on youtube, to be sure that you want to deal with it.
But if you really love it, I'm not going to try to convince you not to buy it. There are relatively inexpensive mods to block FR from moving if you will decide that you don't want to use it.

Tremolo makes tuning much more difficult. Every small adjustment to one string throws the 5 other strings out of tune. This is true of all guitars however as the tension of all the strings is summed and bends the neck of the guitar forward, but to a much lesser extent. A strat-style tremolo is easier to tune than a floyd-rose, but a fixed bridge is much easier than both.

Tuning is one of the most important and misunderstood concepts of guitar. Most guitarists are using robotic tuners to get 0-0-0-0-0-0 in tune, and this means every chord you play will be out of tune due to the intrinsic nature of the fretboard. Look at a true-temperament fretboard and you will understand what I mean. If you watch old videos of Andres Segovia playing he will tune 1 or 2 strings in the middle of playing so that his next chord will be in tune. You will learn less about guitar by setting a floyd-rose and forgetting it for 1 or 2 years. I haven't even mentioned its 1000x times easier to tune to drop-D by twisting the tuner 1/2 spin than to pull out the allen wrench.

If this is going to be your first electric guitar you may want to think twice before going with a Floyd Rose.

Setting up a Floyd rose is much more involved and once it is set up you can't quickly tune to a different key, you have to set it up again.

I've got a SL3X and it's a great guitar. It's got a really nice weight to it and the fact that it's a neck through Floyd Rose is just icing on the cake. It's worth noting that the Single Coil Humbuckers are hot and while it's achievable, you've really got to roll the volume down quite a bit to get more mellow/less crunchy tone.

I'm tempted to get another to setup in another tuning!
