Braun shavers are the best brand I have ever used. My own 7 series is still going strong after 10 years. Braun has launched many classic products. The most impressive one is the one I bought more than 20 years ago. It was made in China, uses 2 AA batteries and is very compact and suitable for travel. It is very durable and has no problem even if it falls on the marble floor in the bathroom.
I'm looking to get a reliable and sturdy *very compact* electric shaver for travel…if anyone has one, please tell me about it.

I have been using a crapy phillips one blade $30 electric shaver for years and besides the cost of those blade refills it actually works great, I finally decided to treat myself to a nice shaver so I bought this for around $100 at costco about a year ago and literally hate it. It barely cuts my facial hair, I have to use this shaver first and then my old one blade shaver every time to finish the job. Also, I barely have facial hair so this shouldn't be that crazy of a job.

Really depends on your face. If you want to try electric again, I suggest you give it some time. Three weeks or a month of just using the electric. It's gonna suck for a little while, but your facial hair "adapts" and the electric will eventually get close to as good as a manual shave.
Second this.

I feel Panasonic is better than Braun. I have Braun 7, not that sharp.
I got both. Arc5 and this. Arc was closer of a shave and less vibration. This one cuts my face less and quieter. So, pick your poison type of choice.

Agree with this. For high end, Panasonic generally closer shave. Braun more gentle and works better on longer whiskers. Usually Panasonic cheaper upfront but Braun replacement blades/foil cheaper.

How have you cut yourself with an Arc5?

Although, to be fair, I've been able to cut myself with every type of razor.

If this has the 9 Pro head, which I believe it does, then it's capable of a damn fine shave. I'm surprised to see its ranking for an in-store only deal.

I've used most kinds of electric razors and several bladed razors. I have settled on this specific Braun. Here's what's up:
  • Norelcos and all other spinning-circle shavers are worthless. I swear they pluck the hairs individually instead of shaving.
  • No electric shaves as close as a good bladed razor. But it's nearly impossible to cut yourself with an electric.
  • Panasonic ARC gives the closest electric shave, but it takes longer and more passes to shave with them than the Braun. Worse, the blades wear out much faster than the Braun and are very expensive.
  • This Braun doesn't shave quite as close as the Panasonic, but it shaves much more quickly and the blades last over twice as long.
I use this Braun, because I can shave in 30-45 seconds, which means I shave nearly every day instead of putting it off because it takes too long. On average I look better and take far less time to do it.

PROTIP: You can throw out the charging base and the "cleaning" liquid. The battery will last much longer if you only charge it when it gets low, the base won't take up a huge chunk of your vanity, and you won't pay hundreds of dollars over the years for little pods of Listerine in a plastic caddy. Just pull the blades off and tap out the whiskers every few days, rinse it under the sink, and lube it once every couple weeks so the blades last longer. A few drops of mineral oil on each foil will do, or you can buy the lube spray like @Fragster said.

Reminder that as the premium Braun model this is still Made in Germany.

This competes directly with the high-end Panasonic models that still manage to be Made in Japan.

Good luck!

Worth a note that Braun changed their cleaning cartridge form factor, and this model looks to be compatible with the older style cleaning cartridges with the protrusions at the end.

The newer cleaning cartridges do not have the protrusions, and reports are mixed on whether or not the newer cleaning cartridges are backwards compatible with the older model shavers.

YMMV.

I've used this model for several years and it chews through my thick whiskers with ease. Baby butt smooth, closer than a blade.

Seems like a solid deal if you can find it in stock! Anyone have luck in the SoCal area?

I just had a buddy get me the usb C version of Arc6 in japan. Peculiar situation as I'm a manual razor guy switching over. Would have just grabbed this based on use case.

Did so much research too because you'd be surprised on panasonic models choices like specific run shoes.
