These models have a known issue where they startup and run for about 6 seconds, then the motor turns itself off, while the unit remains powered on. You can repeat this 6 times in a row and it'll finally start and run continuously like it's supposed to. From what I've read, it's an issue with faulty capacitors on the mainboard of the unit. I know it's a huge issue because the main body part has been Out of Stock on this model under their parts section on Dyson.com for well over a year (I tried to purchase a new body in Dec 2023). I've had "Notify Me." requests in since then and even had their CSRs add me as well, and I've not gotten a single notification that they are back in stock. DO NOT EXPECT PARTS TO BE AVAILABLE FOR THIS POST-WARRANTY. Because it's Dyson, the secondhand parts market is wild too.
I am hoping they solved the issues on this Gold version. I went ahead and purchased this because it's a decent vacuum and I have all the accessories already. I can DIY a frankenstein's monster if I want to if this one fails at the warranty 6 month mark.
The V11 and V15s share batteries and other parts/accessories while the V12 is by itself. Dyson doesn't really really have a cross compatibility chart on parts/accessories though.
1.) Many people online, including myself, believe this specific unit has a design flaw in which dust/crap builds up inside motor compartment. I suspect this occurs when you are emptying the bin, and you press the little red tab on the underneath to fully release the cannister which allows you to dump everything out. But then when you put the cannister back on, the edges of the rubber seal don't always give a 100% seal and it allows dust to make it into the motor. Once enough dust builds up, you have to disassemble the unit and can shake or blow it out with compressed air. But the error message kept coming back. Cleaning the filter or adding a new filter did nothing to stop the errors which would occur 2 seconds after you turn it on.
To dyson's credit, they went through the troubleshooting and gave a brand new unit, but it took 3+ weeks. But doing a lot of research online, there are many other stories of this same issue occurring.
2.) I purchased it brand new for $400 a few months back. How is $350 for a refurb a good deal?

Since then, I've felt more confident purchasing "eBay Refurbished Certified" products on eBay.

Dyson is generally better but if you can get the jet for less than half a comparable dyson it may be worth it.
The trombone style dust bin emptying is so much better than their older style

The laser in the hard floor roller is not a gimmick at all, very helpful, and I appreciate the ease of emptying the bin compared to my older Dyson handheld. At first I thought I would miss the trigger, but the button is actually nicer to have.
