Note that it can't capture 4k144HDR, those numbers are maxes of what it can capture but not all at once. Quoting the website for HDR capture the max frame rates and resolutions are: "up to: 4K30 / 1440p60 /1080P120 HDR"

I have never used this or exactly know what this is but I am guessing this can record from other hardware with HDMI output, for example, Playstation, camera, graphics card etc. Difference- 1. As I mentioned previously, 2. OBS requires system resources which may slow down your PC. With this one, the processing is being done by itself and not the source hardware. Someone, please correct me if I am wrong.

Latency is low but audio is stereo.
Avermedia live gamer ultra 2.1 can do 5.1 audio.

Its basically just a pass through. The PC receiving the signal WILL STILL use system resource to encode the stream and deliver it wherever you choose. Twitch local file youtube ect. You cant use this to offload processing. I thought the same thing before but doesnt work.

The primary use of this device is to stream content from external devices like your PS5, switch, phone or a different pc. Maybe you wanna show your bios.

I think this is a good deal. I bought the avermedia, and it works, but it's just bulky and I dislike the LED (which you can disable once you hook it up to software).

Elgato is a lot more sleek and also allows for custom display profiles.

At this price the elgato is a better buy for me.

Shouldn't the company explain this in any listing or advertisement? Or do they make more money on impulse buyers?
This is a niche product. It isn't just something you stumble on if you're not looking for it.

They do very different things. OBS sends your video to the internet, and can only upload video streams that are already on your computer. This device allows you to capture external video sources (such as a camera or game console) onto your computer, and you can then use OBS to broadcast that video to the internet.

FWIW, I considered buying an Elgato capture device a few years ago to live stream an event that I was recording with an external camera. Instead, I bought a $20 no name USB dongle on Amazon. The cheap one has never given me any trouble and has always worked perfectly fine. I know this one has higher specs, but if your framerate/resolution needs aren't that great it might be worth trying the cheap ones first.

I was offered I think it was $18.75 cb to buy. It's one of those things I've always thought about but could never justify. But with the price + cb I decided to pick one up. Thanks, OP.

I bought one of these a while back and no matter what I did or what computer or output I used, I could not get the 4k to not come in without a green tint. 1080p worked fine. You can Google it and see it's a known thing with these apparently. It has something to do with refresh rate, but I spent hours trying solutions and I never figured it out.
LOL That is probably EXACTLY why they are trying to offload them at Woot!

As far as I know the cheap $10-$20 ones on Amazon have no pass-through. But if you need a basic pass-through HDMI recording card, there are plenty of sub-$40 ones on Amazon. I bought one about two years ago; just a generic one, and it works perfectly with OBS.

Of course, it won't be high refresh rate as this one, but it's worth looking around alternatives if you need one for non-gaming uses (like creating a tutorial or training video etc.). You'll find those to do 1080p60fps recording while providing 4K pass-through. The generic branded ones work just fine, and you do not need to pay high for a branded capture card.

This is a great deal on the current best USB capture card available and should serve your streaming/recording needs--unless you are trying to launch your own Digital Foundry competitor.
