I bought one of these a month ago for screen capturing my PC and Android TV gameplay, and I know for sure the "Up to 4K at 144* frames per second" spec is misleading: The capture card will max out to 60FPS at 4K resolution and to 144FPS at 1440p resolution. It does indeed work really well w/ OBS. However, the device does favor NVIDIA GPU encoding.Just realized my comment is in reference to the "Elgato HD60 X" that I purchased from Amazon which I had confused w/ the "Elgato 4K X 4K144" which is being advertised in the OP, my mistake.
This WILL strip HDCP
HDR adds 25% overhead, because it typically means you're capturing 10-bit color instead of 8-bit (10/8 = 1.25). If it can capture 4K144 SDR, it should easily be able to capture 4K60 HDR and even 4K100 HDR. (100 * 1.25 =125). So their SDR figure is probably using chroma subsampling, most likely 4:2:0, which cuts bandwidth in half. This adds up, because if you cut the 4K144 in half with 4:2:0, now it's the same bandwidth as 4K72. if we take our 4K60 * 1.25, we get 4K75, which is roughly the same.
Manufacturers should be honest about these things and not leave us guessing.
