Any thoughts on 110 or 220? I see 110 is seer 20 and 220 is seer 17... I thought 220 would be more efficient, but looks like it also produced 200w more of power .. is that reducing the seer? How to make sense of these numbers? Thanks

why assume 220/240v is more efficient? It's literally just two 120v lines out of phase.

TBH from what I've seen in appliance circuitry it just complicates the design, adding extra wires, rectifiers/diodes, and transformers. 240v is really only needed if you have higher power devices, to avoid having excessive current draw (and thus requiring larger diameter wiring). It may not even use a 240v motor, but possibly runs the condenser on one 120v leg and the evap on the other 120v.

It can't run condenser on one leg and evap on the other as there is no neutral wire going in. Only 2 phases and ground wire.

Fair point, except I can't find a manual for this anywhere that shows the wiring requirements (and whether it needs a load carrying neutral) so it was just a generic statement about 240v appliances in general. In either case, the point stands...higher voltage just lowers the current draw through the wire, possibly allowing you to use slightly thinner gauge.

We have a corner room in the house on the second floor which always remains hot. We have central air which seems to work everywhere else.

We've have ducts checked (there seems to be something broken or missing between floors that directly effects the room) but it cannot be reached without chopping up wood floors and ceilings in the kitchen. We had insulation redone in attic to modern levels, there is a good exhaust fan in roof above. In recent years we have purchased a window unit to keep it cool enough for my kid. When we have asked for estimates, it sounds like it would cost thousands more to tear in and fix and repair.

We use the window unit.
It is loud as hell and uses plenty of electric.

I feel like running new electric to the room and one of these would be cheaper except for the usage electric.Would one of these be more effective, quieter and be more efficient?

Get a u shaped midea... Far and away the best and quietest window AC I have seen. Have a couple of them and won't buy anything else now.

If you mean depth of the window sill I don't think it would matter. There's some pretty good videos and stuff online for installation. There's a mounting bracket that attaches to the internal part of the window and then hangs outside. Once you mount that you basically just set the air conditioner on it. It's a little convoluted at first but once you realize what you're doing it's quite easy.

Very. When I started working from home after covid we had just moved and I needed an AC in the room I was working in. Unit was mounted probably 4 or 5ft from where I sat and I had no problem using the phone.

We have 2 of the Midea 12k U-shaped units. I replaced one of them in my home office with this Yitahome 12k/110v in late summer and am very happy with the results.

The Midea inverter U-shape units are good, and much quieter than a non-inverter style. But if you can install a mini-split in your location (especially if you can DIY the install) I can't recommend mini-splits highly enough.

BTW, this Yitahome is the same as the Autel and most of these are made by the same few Chinese company that make them all. There's the typical oddities with Chinglish instructions and labeling in the app and remote, but the unit itself works well for both heating and cooling.

Be sure and check that the length of the refrigerant lines will work for your installation as the unit only comes with enough refrigerant for that length line set.

Our unit has more than paid for itself by reducing the use of our whole house heat pump during peak TOU $$ periods.

Good luck.

I bought one last year 12k 220v and installed it in my living room 1800 sq ft house vaulted ceiling. It's been great, ave from my sense energy monitor at 64w while on. I only use my central system for an hour before bed in July-Sept in south Louisiana. Unlike my neighbor we haven't used the central AC since October.

Just purchased another one for my rental property @ 1300 sq ft.

Manufacturer is AUX. I believe they also make MR Cool systems and others.
