Nor familiar with Micron, but the reviews and the Q&A on best buy confirm that it has an open slot. One user states that they threw in additional 32GB and the laptop recognized all 40GB
I bought one of these as an open box for around $175 a few months ago for a family member. It's an excellent everyday computer at prices like these. Yes, you can upgrade the ram (it comes with 8Gb soldered and one free slot). I immediately threw in a 16GB stick I had lying around to take it to 24GB, and swapped the SSD for a 1TB I had lying around. Also, you can buy a small usb-c to barrel adapter to charge this laptop via usb-C for very little money. If USB charging is the only thing holding you back, that's silly. These adapters are tiny, and work very well.
Again, this is a great everyday laptop at this sale price.
Would be an instant buy for me if the USB-C port could be used for charging. Barrel plugs seem like they would be more expensive to put in a computer than it is to add power delivery to a port, but I really know very little about the cost to make a laptop.

Anyone have advice on the SSD swap? I took out the 128gb and put in a used 1TB Samsung from another, working machine. I created a windows 11 USB installer, and booted from the usb. However, once I get to the page where I would select where to install, the SSD doesn't show up. It doesn't show in diskpart either. It does show in the BIOS, though. Any ideas?

Does it take a full size nvme? Tempted. $50 more for another 8gb sodimm and 512gb nvme. Solid little system for under $300.

Would this be an upgrade from an HP DQ0011DX. Screen Size. 14 Inches. Color. Silver. Hard Disk Size. 128 GB. CPU Model. Intel Core i3. Windows 10 Home; 8th Gen Intel® Core i3-8145U ? It gets loud and fans run fast when doing basically anything.

I'm replying to myself. I got the SSD figured out. There is a driver that is needed, unless you turn off the Intel dvm, mvd stuff in the bios. I loaded the driver, because it soundedike performance may be better that way.

Got one today. Had to follow some arcane steps to disable Windows 11 S mode in order to make a local (offline) account: https://youtu.be/FCGvaD18YSU?t=43 Maybe there's a better way but it worked for me until I tried to update Windows 11. Converted to 11 Pro using MAS. It was on 22H2 (which is EOL) and was able to get some updates, but then it said "Get the newer version of Windows to stay up to date". Tried using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant but it fails with the classic "Something went wrong" error code 0x8007007f. Rebooted and then the assistant worked and it updated to 24H2.

Edit: also I put in a 32GB stick without any issue. I found that "Windows Driver Foundation" was using 25+% CPU usage, and it was due to "Intel Innovation Platform Framework Processor Participant" whatever that is. Uninstalled it and the process disappeared. See: https://old.reddit.com/r/techsupp...t/m0zefyg/

I just bought one and added 16GB of RAM, swapped the SSD for a 1TB drive, and installed Ubuntu. The Wi-Fi card needed replacement for Linux compatibility, but otherwise it works great. 10/10 deal.

How is this for a standard daily tasks? I recently switched from pc to Mac and there are a few programs that are windows only
So I was thinking of picking with this up or a mini pc since this won't be my daily driver…any thoughts?

If you just need something for basic Windows-only programs, this should work fine. The i3-1215U is decent for light tasks.

Looking for free upgrade to Win 11 Pro. What is this "MAS" you're talking about?

This would be a decent bump up in speed for you. If you're comfortable disassembling your existing laptop (or can find a video to guide you) it might be worthwhile to look into replacing the thermal paste with something high quality to see if that helps run the fan less often. My windows laptop is several generations older and isn't too quick to run the fan for long unless I'm really bogging it down.

Thank you. Just purchased this one. Going to upgrade the ram and SSD. Got it open box for $189. Perfect condition. Considering my Chromebook cost $150 this is not bad. The screen isn't great but I got it for when I need a windows 11 machine.

What does this include in the box? I drove over 60 miles in peak traffic and got an open box only to find no power adapter.
