The other brands don't work because they have the bitter coating to discourage children from putting them in the mouth. You can take off the coating off by using some isopropyl alcohol and rubbing it off the battery. They will work after that.
oh this makes sense. I can go back to buying Duracell batteries since they are a bit bigger than Panasonic batteries so likely lasting a bit longer too.

I just swapped out three AirTag batteries the other day. Had Duracell in them, replaced them with Energizer. Worked for me.

Dude, i bought the same duracells from costco too and used it on 5 of my airtags and they didn't work.
All ten AirTags working just fine with my Costco Duracells and I did nothing to them, just put them in.

I've been using these Toshibas in my Airtags for several months, no issues whatsoever. Also about 50% cheaper than this deal.

And they did significantly better than the Panasonics in this review:

The ebay ones you linked to say "fresh stock," but the expiration date is this year? How does that work?

The expiration year on the listing is wrong. I bought from this exact seller and the batteries I received say they expire 01/2033 on them.

I got some not long ago, and only 2 out of the package of 6 was worth using. For me I'll not buy this brand again.

Just put a DollarTree battery in my AirTag. No issue. 2 for $1.25. Took a bit to register but it beeped when i put battery in then i closed the cap.
Although it would be nice to buy brand-name batteries, totally agree with you on getting the dollar tree ones. especually the button batteries In this case, these batteries are a better deal since they are on sale.
But I've been buying Dollar Tree batteries for years, and they work extremely well. Especially for short term use things like holiday props that I use them for each year.

Could anyone tell me why the battery in US is so expensive? AA, AAA or CR2032 etc, all like 3-4x expensive than same stuff in China, is it because of some extra tax or what else?

Normal price is not 13.99, it's closer to $7 - $8

Weird, I just replaced an airtag with the Energizer child-coated battery and it's working fine right now. I didn't do anything other than open the pack and stick battery straight in.
They've revised the batteries since AirTags first came out. There was an issue where the costing prevented contact. I believe they simply thinned out the coating but even with the coating NEWER batteries should work.
