you can get a new m4 14" macbook pro for $1400 on amazon. It has the regular m4 chip but 16gb/512mb plus pro motion screen and all the ports

The M4 version with the same specs is 1500 with apple EDU discount. I would rather pay the extra 200 for the latest chip and better front camera. And the new one has slightly bigger battery as well.

This is true, though there's something to be said about the super thin and light format of the Air. Not that it's really a deal breaker one way or another, just something that might matter to some folks.
