I was playing FEAR exactly like thst and found myself literally just running through the levels just scare IRL. I realized what I was doing and had to go to bed. I was in my 20's.

I fondly remember playing FEAR 1 when I was 14 or so, and pacing around in a little room with flickering lights (often a sign that Alma was around), looking at the door leading to the next room and thinking "I want to keep playing the game but I don't want to go in there." I think I just saved and quit, then the next time I had my eyes shut when I went through the door.
One day, all of a sudden, you just stop being truly scared by horror stuff. It's sad. I wish I could have retained like 20% of that as an adult.

In my case it's the ability to really immerse into the games. I love rdr2, but don't have hours to play at one time. It's not really fun for 30 minutes here and there. I am buying this anyways, I hope I have time one day

I had a lot of run with FEAR and its expansions back in the day. The story is all a remix of whatever horror films the writers had watched recently, but I liked a lot of the sequences. I recall Extraction Point having really creative fever dream levels messing around the space and time.

Some of my enjoyment was diminished when I realized .

For anybody playing through the series for the first time, I recommend keeping a running tally of helicopters that land safely vs. crash.

I played through all 3 last year and they are still better than many modern FPS's. Crisp and modern feeling tactical shooters without all the extra fluff like you'd find in some Dice or Ubisoft games like needless in game systems or QTE nonsense. Play great on the Steam Deck too (after configuring controls).

3 feels much different than 1 or 2 but I don't think that is a bad thing, some people hated it though because it wasn't "exactly the same....but different" like so many feel all sequels should be.

Side note; currently playing Operation Thunderstorm. It is a FEAR engine based WW2 shooter. Looks like crap compared to even FEAR 1 but is actually a lot of fun as well and only 99 cents on Steam Wink

Don't one of these have two player co-op? And is it split screen?

IIRC, I remember the Xbox 360 version had split screen, but not sure about the PC version.

Yeah, Fear 3 has a coop component. You can play as the bad guy from the OG Fear, he can dart around and possess regular enemies but doesn't get bullet time.
Fear 3 is kinda wack by itself but it can be fun when cooping 🙃

Played nearly 20 yr and 6 yr ago, still holds up. Knowing you can't get hurt in the 'horror movie' sequences makes it more like a horror movie and less a horror game, which is fine. Pretty good story, great gameplay.
