The idea of brands is almost meaningless now and you are imagining the world of 40 years ago still existing
Dewalt, Waterpik, Spyderco and Milwaukee are china products coming out of china factories and are sometimes wonderful products and other times not. You can often get better products for significantly less that work just as well as the ones that some importer slapped their label and "brand" on. In the case of Spyderco which is high end knife seller their chan made knives come out of the same factory that makes much lower cost china branded knives that they also put to market. In the case of Waterpik I got a much nicer $10 product with china brand product than I did with the $60 Waterpik branded china product. I have china brand flashlight that I pair like a dollar for that are still going fifteen to twenty years later.

You're trying to lump the entirety of China's products together. That's no good. Another poster is accurate; the oversaturation is completely ridiculous. Search for ANYTHING on Amazon; literally anything and you'll see a million bootleg companies with no brand presence, no legit warranty, no customer service, etc. Yeah the price may be good but you get what you pay for...

Look in Home Depot, Costco, Target and Macys you see the sme China products that somebody slapped a label on and you will to be able to get warranty coverage for anyway even if it came with one.
I am not willing to pay 80% more for that if you think that a value have at it but with something this cheap if it lasts me than year I have got the value I need and there will be likely a new model that is better a year from now. Yet I have found that many of these dirt cheap items have great function and even good to great durability. I have many I wish would die so I could by a newer model with more features. These are commodities not durable goods
We are not talking houses and cars here it is $4 item how much hand holding do you need. It is half the price of a Starbucks coffee.

I'd prefer to have a point of contact for items that are more than a few bucks, even if the price is a little more.
And lets not forget the potential for malware, etc with electronics (tablets, computers, etc.) with these no-name brands.
Nothing quite like going into your Amazon purchase history only to find the "company" that made the product you're having an issue with no longer exists.
