you may want to consider upgrading from an m2 to an m4 due to the trade in value currently offered. while you're in a sense saving money by not upgrading today, you're also losing money on the trade in by not.

what exactly are you talking about?

I pointed out that for $300 more you get
- double the storage (faster as well)
- much larger trackpad
- way higher quality speakers (best in class in the Pros)
- MUCH better screen
- MUCH better battery life with quicker charging
- an actual cooling system

Then i pointed out that buying a Macbook with 16GB of RAM for $1000+ is a bad investment unless you plan on selling it in the next year or so.

I JUST upgraded my home 16" Intel i9 128GB - the extra RAM keeps it flying nearly 5+ years later. Without the RAM it would be on eBay like all the other 16" Pros with low RAM.

My current laptop is a M4 Max 128GB, one of my business partners had the same laptop with 16GB of RAM. After watching me use mine, he gave his to his wife and bought one with 128GB of RAM.

RAM matters, even for watching Youtube videos/casting/basic shit, some dont notice slow downs or are willing to put up with it, but if you are spending $1k that shouldnt be the case you should future proof unless you have cash to blow which in that case you wouldnt be shopping for a $1,000 laptop.

You get what you pay for, yes 8GB and 16GB is enough to run things, but it is not an enjoyable user experience, maybe at $400-500 not at $1000-1500+

Let me guess you are the type of guy that compares a Ford to a Rolls Royce and argues they both get you to your destination so they must have equal value and user experience.

One more thing, thanks for giving me Tim Cook's future plans regarding base RAM but that really doesnt apply to me bc Ive never purchased a laptop in the last 5 years with less than 64GB of RAM. It's not a flex when you actually get use and value out of something.
awesome I'm not emotionally charged about it / don't understand how you could be. I was just raising the point that 16gb is fine for most people, heck I think even 8gb was even though 8gb was shockingly cheap of Apple to carry on with for as long as they did. They probably still would have 8gb base if not for their 'big' Apple Intelligence push

Anyways- Good day to you too

Many people are stuck in the mindset of "double the RAM = double the app speed" which has never really been true and is certainly not true now with the new nanometer tech from Apple. Most youtube reviewers will tell you that you do not need the extra RAM and I'd agree with that for 99.9% of people that will buy this computer.

Don't you only get decent trade in value if going directly through Apple?

I'm a firm believer 8gb to 16GB is fine (because of M chip memory swap) for the average person but I just got a 64GB m4 max MacBook and I was shocked to see 38GBs of ram being used just for chrome and iMessages open. The fark? I 'm using way less than that with windows chrome. My 32GB workstation gaming windows custom built desktop ram comes close to maxing out the 32GB ram when I 4k video edit in adobe premiere and have chrome open.

MacOS uses all available RAM, a known fact for years

Your question has been posed on Reddit 1000s of times, why is so much of my RAM being eaten up when another Macbook is running the same 2 programs with 1/4 of my RAM?

People will bitch, whine, downvote, and complain - you want a good user experience on a Mac then you get as much RAM as possible unless you plan on upgrading in a year or two.

When someone cant afford something (not speaking of you), they shit all over it and use any justification possible to convince themselves internally they dont need something.

The reality is they cant afford it so they spread misinformation for people who are shopping for a new laptop, sucks to suck

MacBook air M2 base trade in
Apple: $420
BestBuy : $500

I just traded mine at Best buy and got the 512gb M4 air 10gpu core. I realize I could've gotten it cheaper at apple education store but oops, I couldn't wait.
