I got this for my 4 year old. He loves playing platformers, so I loaded it up with some classics plus Pico 8. I don't have to worry about microtransactions or him seeing something sketchy on YouTube, but I also don't have to sit right there watching his every move.
There are lots of options out there, but at this price point this is one of the more powerful cheap devices. To get something better you're looking at 60-75$.

Basically, any device will handle PS1 and below fine, and they're quite affordable.
Then, for quite a bit more money you can add some GameCube and PS2.
Then, for even more money, you can add very strong GameCube and PS2 performance, and some Switch.
Retrocatalog.com is a good resource for basic stats like you were hoping for.

The only real problem is any PS1 game that uses both analog sticks,of which there were not many
Is it because they keep changing model numbers and people can't keep up?
3DS is still Best emulation for Nintendo stuff but obviously if you need PS or n64 you will need better hardware.
3DS is the only system where emulation may not be ideal, one because of the dual screen and 3D feature, and two because of the horsepower required to run it. Anything besides that an emu handheld would do better since the 3DS screen is low res.
