Bought one of these previously. They are a blast. N64 support is hit or miss, but PS1 and below play great.

You will want to have a new actual branded SD card, and load with ArkOS. Instructions here: https://joeysretrohandhelds.com/g...tup-guide/

I got this for my 4 year old. He loves playing platformers, so I loaded it up with some classics plus Pico 8. I don't have to worry about microtransactions or him seeing something sketchy on YouTube, but I also don't have to sit right there watching his every move.

There are lots of options out there, but at this price point this is one of the more powerful cheap devices. To get something better you're looking at 60-75$.

This is a pretty solid and fast synopsis of a variety of options. 20 devices, 1 minute per device.

https://youtu.be/0fcwk_9Dqdc?si=6eSOb3m5yI9jGTs-

Basically, any device will handle PS1 and below fine, and they're quite affordable.

Then, for quite a bit more money you can add some GameCube and PS2.

Then, for even more money, you can add very strong GameCube and PS2 performance, and some Switch.

Retrocatalog.com is a good resource for basic stats like you were hoping for.

The X55 is still current. While the big screen is nice, the machine can't really play many widescreen games, so seems sorta pointless.
Well I need the big screen because I struggle with all the 3.5 screens (unless I put on reading glasses 😆)

anyway I thought the x55 had the successor...no?

Thank you!
When people stopped reading websites and hope to find all the answers on youtube, it's been getting crazy when all you want is a quick comparison. I don't think anyone should spend that much for GC or PS2 emulation, or even switch.
I think for PS2, maybe finding an old PSP might work better, I forgot if it can handle it or not since there were several versions.

25 minutes? What is this a full episode of a series without the fillers?
Youtube videos are getting ridiculous.

Why not just use your cellphone with a controller peripheral? There are so many with really good hall effect sticks for about the same price as this unit. ($42 at time of request on Amazon Vine). My old Fold 2 destroys this on all fronts. I am guessing you guys have much newer cell phones. I am emulating Atari to PS1 on my phone, but of course also have the option of Xbox games via cloud.

I've got a backbone one and it's great for steam link to my desktop and RetroArch app on my phone. The small and cheap retro handhelds I don't worry about seoooong
1) I have to remove MagSafe wallet or stand before playing
2) don't want to kill phone battery.. charge battery . Granted most emu games are have low requirements
3) can use phone to do other stuff while playing on separate handheld
4) these small handhelds are in the <$50 range and I don't worry about them breaking.
5) I can let someone borrow or my kids play and not have to give up my phone

Pretty sure why so many people have more than one retro handheld since they all fit a different need.

Interesting, thankfully this controller doesn't require you to remove phone cases, and has a slot for protruding cameras when extended. Fold devices can charge while playing, if necessary.

Carrying an extra device we need to charge just for emulation? I guess these are for hardcore emu players. I see a lot of these don't play all the games on every system as well.

I don't have kids, so I get that part.

I'm still on the train of just one good device to do everything, but people have different needs. That's cool.

is this ideal for introducing a kid to video games? I'd like to introduce them the classics and slowly let them get into the newer stuff.
Yes, absolutely. We introduced a Miyoo Mini+ to our three oldest of four kids who have had zero screen time (at the time of introduction, ages 7-11). We started with just two games and add one or two a few times a year (typically coincident with birthdays or Christmas). They love Super Mario Bros., Tetris, Sensible Soccer, Pac Man, US Championship V'ball, Pilotwings, Super Mario Kart, 1942, etc. It's been really great to see them be fascinated by these classic 8bit titles and softens some of the social difficulty inherent in their classmates and/or their cousins being fairly steeped in modern gaming.

An advantage of these retro handhelds is the price, as I don't really have to worry about the treatment of the device or it being lost. I've heard my peer parents bemoan their kids losing/misplacing/breaking Switch games or even the entire Switch itself. The device linked in the OP would be a fantastic option for someone to introduce their kids to gaming. I personally have the Powkiddy RGB10 and so far it's great.

Thank you! I actually ended up getting the x35h on sale. i was able to pair up the deal with cashback on aliexpress for an additional $8-ish back extra to a tune of ~$42 after tax. I figured why not since I liked how the x35h seems to be easier on the hands. I guess now I have to look into getting a whole package of games to load up. I did end up having her try super mario bros (the NES version) but she hasn't been able to grasp the concept.. yet. I introduced her to Kirby 3 which seems to be a bit better. who knows. I would want to find more games that will help teach her the basics of gaming so I can introduce her to more complex games and maybe... just maybe... she can play monster hunter with me one day.. cue maniacal laughter

Just a PSA. Most of the cheap non android ones, require USB A to USB C cables. They won't charge with any high wattage USB C only chargers. There are anecdotes on reddit of people frying theirs even using USB A cables if the wattage is too high. The consensus is use a old school 5v 1.5A charger. The only non android ones I know of which will charge with anything are the Miyoo Mini v4 and the Magic x mini zero 28.

Please bear with me.... Are these units preloaded with games or do I need to buy these retro games or are they available online?

Would this work better than a standard iPad for Roblox or Minecraft?
