Got mine last year and yes. It's been collecting dust. But in some circumstances, it's good to have

I have the X3 for 3+ years already.
I mainly use it when I go on vacation trips. I think it's totally worth it even tho I only used it about 4 trips.

The best thing about it is that you can just leave it on 360 view recording while you do activities and then go back to the video and edit/clip the moments. Like for conventional recorders, you need to point/manually focus the attention to the action and hope to capture all of it but with the 360cam, it just records everything around it. So it basically captures all those action moment in the 360cam without you needing to personally look for it during recording.

Highly recommend using the pc software for better range of mouse and keyboard editing. tho the phone app is not bad but I'm just more comfortable with pc setup.

Accessories I recommend you getting:
- Get the 2 or 3 extra battery. This enable you to have near full day uptime on recording without worrying to recharge. There's a bundle pack that comes with like a 1 or more batteries + charge station

- Get one or more 1tb micro sd card. I got one that I almost fill up on my 7 day vacation. I was nearly recording every moment.

- Get the official insta extendable selfie stick that can turn to tripod option on the handle portion. It's great to have when you want to leave it at place and keep recording while you do things and don't need to hold on to it.

- Get the waterproof case if you plan to go into deepwater (more than 10m). It was great for me when I went snorkeling underwater and during whale shark tour in Philippines.

optional:
- The audio is pretty good on the camera but the sound capture will origin from where the camera is located. So incase you want to capture clear audio from like a interview setting, you want to get that insta audio adapter that can plug in external mic. Then I recommend to get the wireless Dji mics

- There's those floating extendable selfie stick for water activities or just get the Camera Wrist Strap, Adjustable Nylon Hand Wrist Straps Lanyard with a 1/4" screw to attach it to that original selfies stick it comes with.

- There's those typical camera mounts packs, like to backpack, head mount, chest mount etc if you want hands off but the selfie stick is still the best route due to the ability the camera can make the selfie stick turn invisible in the recordings.

It does cost quite a bit. Think around $600~, after all the extra accessories I bought. But I think it's worth it because all the precise moment it captures without me needing to worry about focusing the camera/attention at x times. It just let me turn it on and record 360 and then later edit the videos to find/clip the moments it capture.

I wish I have the X4 because it came out like 1 year after I bought my X3. The X3 is only 4K max on the 360 but the X4 can do 8K. The video resolution is so good that you can make still frames and use it as camera shot. It's still has crisp and clear due to the 4K for my X3. But with the X4, it can do even better, at 8K.

Anyone recommend? Heard it's niche and many people don't use it as often. Thoughts?

I bought it 32 days ago. Went to costco today, sadly they didn't honor the adjustment. They asked me to return it instead. I asked for re-purchasing the returned box, but the answer was no. It doesn't make sense to have a 30-day price adjustment policy aligned with 90-day return window. Just felt bad to return and rebuy.
In these circumstances, I would recommend returning the newly purchased item with old receipt so that it can be put back on the shelf.

30 days price adjustment but 90 days return is not a great idea.

I bought one of these for the same price at CES this year directly from Instacam. It was a show special that included motorcycle bundle and selfie stick. I went on one trip to Puerto Rico with it and it was awesome to use, however I didn't put the lens covers on (forgot) and it took a small fall out of my bag and hit the floor from a short distance. The lens on both sides were damaged...one cracked and one scratched. I didn't realize they offered accidental damage but I was just a few days (more than 15) out of the time period to purchase it. The repair is going to be $100 each lens! I think I'm going to use my Chase credit card purchase protection. Be warned..they are fragile if the covers are not on.

The videos that you take now in 360 will be a precious memory in your old age.

same here, but we take it on our trips, it's nice to have.
it does overheat when using the 4K recording mode, perhaps next gen would fix it, I knew the issue before buying it but it's a big improvement over the last gen, and it fits our needs for recording.
I also did a lot of YouTube comparisons with the DJI handheld, this one does everything I wanted to do.
if you need it buy it, if not, wait for next gen
I was going to leave this on the rear windshield for when I go on drives. Glad you pointed out the overheating. (It would sit in FL sun for 30m-1hr at a time)

DEFINITELY don't need it, so will wait for next gen Smilie

I bought it for my trip to Oahu and it was fantastic for that purpose. It was nice to have it up on a 10 ft selfie stick and not worry about framing the shot. I was just able to stick it high in the air and enjoy the scenery and then watch it back at the hotel. But, after we got back from our trip, we didn't use it anymore.

Bought this for $430, for my motorcycle as a dash cam, but for some reason I'm not even able to see license plates in the next lane, plus the video is kinda grainy, going to return, I'm not using it enough to justify the cost.

I got this when it was on sale on Costco last year and I have a lot of overheating issues with it. Even with the thermal case, recording in 8k will typically shut off after 30 mins of recording. 5.7k+ I've recorded to about an hour just fine without shutoff. This was all recorded indoors during the winter so heater might have some effect on it.

Been on the fence and finally ordered one. What sold me is I get awkward feeling whenever I'm waving my cell phone around and people happen to be in my point of view. Even though I'm not recording them personally it just feels weird. I look forward to just sticking this camera out and let it do its thing.
