Got mine last year and yes. It's been collecting dust. But in some circumstances, it's good to have

I have the X3 for 3+ years already.
I mainly use it when I go on vacation trips. I think it's totally worth it even tho I only used it about 4 trips.

The best thing about it is that you can just leave it on 360 view recording while you do activities and then go back to the video and edit/clip the moments. Like for conventional recorders, you need to point/manually focus the attention to the action and hope to capture all of it but with the 360cam, it just records everything around it. So it basically captures all those action moment in the 360cam without you needing to personally look for it during recording.

Highly recommend using the pc software for better range of mouse and keyboard editing. tho the phone app is not bad but I'm just more comfortable with pc setup.

Accessories I recommend you getting:
- Get the 2 or 3 extra battery. This enable you to have near full day uptime on recording without worrying to recharge. There's a bundle pack that comes with like a 1 or more batteries + charge station

- Get one or more 1tb micro sd card. I got one that I almost fill up on my 7 day vacation. I was nearly recording every moment.

- Get the official insta extendable selfie stick that can turn to tripod option on the handle portion. It's great to have when you want to leave it at place and keep recording while you do things and don't need to hold on to it.

- Get the waterproof case if you plan to go into deepwater (more than 10m). It was great for me when I went snorkeling underwater and during whale shark tour in Philippines.

optional:
- The audio is pretty good on the camera but the sound capture will origin from where the camera is located. So incase you want to capture clear audio from like a interview setting, you want to get that insta audio adapter that can plug in external mic. Then I recommend to get the wireless Dji mics

- There's those floating extendable selfie stick for water activities or just get the Camera Wrist Strap, Adjustable Nylon Hand Wrist Straps Lanyard with a 1/4" screw to attach it to that original selfies stick it comes with.

- There's those typical camera mounts packs, like to backpack, head mount, chest mount etc if you want hands off but the selfie stick is still the best route due to the ability the camera can make the selfie stick turn invisible in the recordings.

It does cost quite a bit. Think around $600~, after all the extra accessories I bought. But I think it's worth it because all the precise moment it captures without me needing to worry about focusing the camera/attention at x times. It just let me turn it on and record 360 and then later edit the videos to find/clip the moments it capture.

I wish I have the X4 because it came out like 1 year after I bought my X3. The X3 is only 4K max on the 360 but the X4 can do 8K. The video resolution is so good that you can make still frames and use it as camera shot. It's still has crisp and clear due to the 4K for my X3. But with the X4, it can do even better, at 8K.

Anyone recommend? Heard it's niche and many people don't use it as often. Thoughts?

Just got one for $399 - $100 discount = $299 + tax = $319. I did not apply any coupon code or anything. The $100 discount made my day.
Dang, confirmed. I got it too. Can't be intentional

WOW! I am so glad you all posted the hidden discount. $299 for a kit that is selling on Amazon for $646 is a real steal! Big thanks to you all!

Just a comment about the editing.
I got one of these over the weekend, and have already had time to play with it. It's my first 360 cam since the Samsung one like 6-7 years ago (which was actually pretty good.) It is not as much headache as some make it out to be. I found it to be relatively easy.
Yes, you can upload the 360 videos at full res to YouTube (which you have been able to do for years) and use the mouse (or the app) to move the video around. It still works great, and I sent a couple to family to let them play around with it. No editing required. Just dump the footage to YouTube and it's a fun 360 experience.
I put a couple of videos into the Studio application on Windows, and that is pretty easy to use too. It does automatic keyframing on people that it can recognize, and so I shot the video around a couple of people, had the software keyframe to that person, and it looked great the first time. Trim the ends, and boom, done!

My local Costco wouldn't honor the$299 price, but I was able to order it for that price online.

That's odd. sameday.costco has it listed locally at $312.99 through the 21st, and I was under the impression that sameday used instore price plus InstaCart markup. I was planning on stopping by tonight and checking it out regardless.
At $400 I could skip it, but as $300 I let my wife convince me to get it.

I saw the same thing on Instacart, but the sign in store was $399, and that's what it rang up

Yo this is crazy good deal. I'm legitimately considering getting 2. Waaaait was that the ploy the whole time? 😂

But seriously, it's kind of a meh "deal" at $400, but completely irresistible at $318 delivered. At least to me. Makes me wonder if we're in for a canc…yeah let's hope not.

I think it was a glitch from yesterday. My order haven't shipped yet.
