Seems like a good assortment and a lot of food for the money. This is a decent brand their food cans are rated well.

Just note there's no meat in this, so not a lot of protein. But to get better food, with meat, like Montainhouse, it's a lot more money.

Expiration dates in the Amazon reviews suggest these are good for 25 years. In case you're wondering, like I was.

FWIW, I hear McDonalds stored in open air lasts this long allegedly. I might mix and match for variety.

Just buy canned meat, dried beans, rice, honey, powdered milk and a good water filter. find recipes and brands you like, instead of getting things in bulk.
They won't last 25 years though. By the time you buy canning jars, oxygen absorbers, etc you are still dishing out $65.

I still have a bucket of this sitting at the back of my pantry that has been sitting there since the Covid jabs started getting rolled out. No regrets, as I view it as an 'insurance policy' in case I can't go out to a store and get food again for 'whatever reason'. A one time payment of $65 bucks for an insurance policy that doesn't expire until, in my case, 2035 is a good deal. I think I paid like $80 for mine
You could have bought 5 shares of Palantir lol.

These are not freeze-dried which makes a big difference on the shelf life. Don't count on getting the expiration date advertised

Augason Farms is decent. But after many backpacking meals we've found Mountain House is better overall.

Agree Mountain House is better, plus generally include meat. But it also costs a lot more, about 15 times the price per calorie. Pay for what you get a guess.

Mountain House Expedition Bucket - 30 Servings 3,100 calories - $143

VS

Augason Farms Lunch and Dinner Emergency Food - 92 servings 21,000 calories - $65

IMO hiking/camping get Mountain House. Buying a bucket or two to sit in your basement that you may or may not use Augason Farms. Even if it only tastes okay in an emergency, it will be nice to have.

Very "apples to oranges" comparison.

The Mountain House buckets are freeze dried food. Longer / more reliable shelf life. The packets contained are also actual meals.

The Augason Farms bucket is dehydrated and is comprised mainly of carbs and soups. Even pudding... Not all calories are equal.

Other variables as well - prices at time of quoting, etc.

Agree MH is better and like I said includes meat in a lot of their meals. But just pointing out its 10X to 15X the price.

Not good, not bad, just information for anyone looking to buy food like this.

I vote for sardines instead. You can eat them without waiting for the world to end, and give them out at Halloween too.

They used to have breakfast and dinner packs that came with 6 10 cans, $70-$80. Shame they don't have them anymore.

I've tried several emergency meal options from Augason and Costco. The taste is mediocre across brands, but Augason offers good variety and calorie content while Costco's version tastes slightly better. Taste isn't my priority for emergency situations anyway.

I tested these meals exclusively for a week and felt fine, though staying committed was challenging when surrounded by others eating regular food, especially on weekends. Being not very into meat ( I'm not vegetarian at all though ), these meals work well for me. I'm currently researching more brands to build a 6-12 month food supply for the whole family.

Sure, but the pail comparison is also kind of bunk. You're comparing pail A which contains full meals with pail B which is 3/4 filler. If you compare just the pouches for example they are equal in price. Around $10ea.

I rarely buy the pails of anything as they're not much of a deal to begin with. If the world is going to heck, or even if I'm just out in the woods, I prefer to be eating something I actually enjoy Wink
