I was referring to electronics, as Costco (at least around me) have someone working the electronics floor.
are you sure hes the electronics guy? whats his daily tasks? just stand there waiting for any question from the customer? it looks like its a better job than costco door greeter.

I didn't ask them for their job description, but at Costco, there's someone that handles that front section of the floor (mainly electronics, plus the jewelry case and I assume appliances). They might only be there during busy periods, but I've purchased an iPad and laptop from Costco that had an employee there that approached me both times asking for help, etc. These days most larger retail stores train employees to work almost anywhere on the floor/register so they can shift employees around based on foot traffic (and staff easier), so I'd assume they probably shift around alot. I just heard from my coworker that his son received a raise for each position he successfully trained in (this is at a Wawa), which incentivizes the staff to be able to fill any role in the store (other than manager) and makes it much easier for the stores to staff and deal with call outs, especially since they only have a few people on per location.

My point in answering his questions was that when I'm at BJ's, it's a ghost town, so you'd need to seek someone out at the front to assist. Other than the few people in the back at the bakery/deli/meat, it's just the cashiers and one customer service person and receipt checker (they don't have a greeter to check for membership upon entering) and that's it.

To your point, I feel like anything is better than a greeter or receipt checker.

cross training is a nightmare. nobody wants it, except the boss of course. basically you dont really learn much from whoeve trying to train you. its his job security. he doesnt want you to replace him. its just more tasks/hats that you need to wear on so the boss can expect more from his employees.

agreed on the ghost town. even their cafeteria. they dont even have their light on in that section.
