Matches the everyday price at Micro Center if you have a local option. Otherwise no amazing deal here. Rather, this will be a great option down the road as it presents a nice, modern upgrade path for AM4 systems and the 32MB of L3 Cache is a nice incremental improvement over prior generations' models, some of which had only 8MB or 16MB of L3 cache.

Good luck!

Performance goes from(worst to best)5600,5600T,5600X,5600XT with about a 2-3% difference between them. I think there is only a ~100 mhz clock speed difference.

I think obsolete is not quite correct. Passé perhaps. This is still a legitimate upgrade for somebody who has an old system with like a 2600 or something like that. It should be like 80 bucks by now though. 100 is over the top.

If someone has a 10yr old pc, they can do better than 5xxx gen

You think thats over the top, the 5600xt is $155.

I'm upgrading to this from an i5-6500 I was more than happy with until it recently started bootlooping and wouldnt post. going from 16gb 2666 cl16 to this cpu + 64gb 3600 cl16 + b550 mobo (once I decide on one) for around $350 total.

Amazon, Newegg, and Microcenter both state shipping dates from end of March to mid April for this though. If the other 5600's and 5700's drop in price in the meantime and are in stock I'll cancel my order.

I know it. It's just silly. I've been holding out for a 5700 X at 100 bucks. I'm just not willing to pay any more than that. I don't use my desktop too often these days and I would rather just save for an AM5 machine.

If you have a machine from like… 2018 this is a drop-in upgrade without having to upgrade the board and buy DDR5 ram. I don't know how much better you're gonna do for 100 bucks. If you go to eBay or craigslist, everybody wants over $100 for a 3700x which is just delusional. If you don't wanna spend hours sifting through used listings then this is probably the best someone looking for a cheap upgrade is gonna do.

Obsolete- no longer produced or used; out of date.

Entry-level- (of a product) suitable for a beginner or first-time user; basic.
"entry-level computers"

Not sure how you define entry level, and maybe my interpretation is wrong but when I think of the capabilities of an entry level gaming pc, I'm thinking of a combination that will produce a quality gaming experience for someone that hasn't become overly aware and/or sensitive to much beyond 1080P 60Hz. If it hasn't changed already, this is bare minimum for those that don't know better, especially those that aren't influenced by influences telling them what they need.

Maybe the times are passing me by, but I'm pretty sure this cpu would still be considered mid-level. Ofcourse there are better options but in my opinion, this would be a helluva cpu for an entry level. I have a 5600x paired with a 3070ti, definitely doesn't feel obsolete or entry level.

We are spoiled by AMD and the abundance of low cost "good enough" processors. I certainly wouldn't go lower than this for a build. There's not much savings. And I think you will start to be bottlenecked CPU wise unless you go for an entry level GPU (B580/4060/7600).

I agree. I wouldn't go lower either, for myself. The 5600x 3070ti mainly serves as a backup in case my something fails on my main pc fails. Otherwise it's pretty much only used for fiveM by my son. My point was more regarding that I hardly believe this cpu is entry level or obsolete. I built a pc for my brother in law with ryzen 3 and 1660 as an entry level, because he is brand new to pc gaming and uses his 15 year old tv for a display. I expect that to become obsolete or unusable long before this cpu.

Older gen can do 1080p with a dedicated gpu for gaming but look at how much more $$$$ it costs to do 1440 and 2160...

IMO an entry level GPU is an iGPU. If you can play most games in medium settings, it's in mid range to me.

The 5600T is just the Zen 3 version of the 3600 which had 32MB of L3 cache.
