Hi all, be aware that if you buy open box, you only get a 3 month of warranty. Asus support confirmed this for me earlier this month after I read on Reddit another person having an issue and finding out the same info. Once I found this out I returned my open box laptop to bestbuy.

If you don't care about a 3 month warranty then you can def find a great open box deal on this laptop. I wasnt comfortable only having 3 months based off the cost of the laptop.

16 GB soldered ram kills this deal for me, it's just not enough anymore
Gaming laptop with 16 GB in 2025 is a travesty.

No it really isnt, most of us game while still having our browsers open with tons of tabs and other programs running in the background, the limitation of 16GB kills this deal completely.

If that is true Best Buy has a lot of explaining to do, have you reached out to Best Buy when you were returning the laptop and did they confirm that? It would be blatant fraud if they are still saying full warranty when selling the product like they were in the past.

I mentioned people having issues with Asus a few months back in another thread, but they all quoted Best Buy saying the manufacture would honor the full year.
I bought a G14 32gb ram/rtx 4070 from Best Buy and I took it back for the same reason. When I brought it up, the local GM confirmed that it's true and they received a ton of feedback on this. 3 months is not enough for a $1000 laptop

I have a question. If you take your laptop to ASUS for repairs after 3 months , how do they know that this is an open box laptop?

They will ask for proof of purchase, the receipt will usually list open box for the item.

I was hovering at 12gb just browsing with multiple tabs open. Imagine running a game on top of that. You absolutely need 32gb if you are considering high end gaming or you will have to kill all the tasks before you start a game.

Just to confirm from the questions above - the RAM is not expandable? I understand that the stick (or sticks) are soldered - but does that mean there are no free slots? I was pretty sure the previous year's model had a soldered stick, but also room for expansion.

The game will likely crash if insufficient memory (or memory leak) is the issue. Vram is more important than ram for gaming.

FWIW a full year of geek squad protection which includes accidental damage is 229$. It wipes out the savings of an open box, but a little bit better warranty than you get for free.

If I need to pickup a laptop today - no crazy multitasking needs. Office apps, netflix, and game wise fornite and age of empires is there a better laptop for the price? I was also looking at the 1k costco hp omen with the 4060 and 32gb of ram.

MY OB 4070 bought in early March shows a warranty expiration of 1/30/2026 after I registered it. Maybe it depends on original purchase date?

They know when the person is an idiot and says something. Just register the laptop online and tell them it was a gift. Tbh the laptop will most likely have issues after expiration. Even my Y50 from 2015 still works, so doubt my G14 will get less than 5-7yrs. One of my laptops is from 2008.

If you don't take care of the laptop, then yeah you'll need the warranty.

My laptops also last a long time also. The period of time with the highest failure rate's is usually within 2 months. After that, you are good.

Also, if any of you think that ASUS will always honor their warranty or will fix your broken laptop… you should research on ASUS's warranty process. I wish you good luck and don't need to find out.

I picked up the AMD version of this back in Jan during the open box sale (bought mine for $1600 exc condition). Original warranty was registered by buyer back in Dec '24. Emailed Asus customer service with my BB receipt and they updated the warranty to begin from my date of purchase.

It's running flawless and super snappy. rtx4070 is perfect for 1440p gaming. Just do a clean install of nvida drivers. Currently playing Elden Ring, Blop6, MW3 and Stalker 2.

BEST speakers on a windows laptop !! The G16 is the closest wwindows laptop that comes close to a macbook in terms of build quality/audio/screen (mine is OLED screen).

RAM is soldered on. This only has an additional PCIe Gen 4 M.2 slot for SSD expansion.

I picked up the 2023 Version March 2nd when Best Buy ran their last sale.
165hz FHD Monitor- 16GB of Ram; 4070 Card; 512GB SSD. I've done all the windows update; bios updates, driver updates, removed all the bloatware and have been playing Marvel Rivals, Once Human and a bunch of other games since.
I still have my 4070 Desktop; but opted for a secondary PC so besides games and nothing else runs on it besides Capcut. I haven't upgraded the RAM yet since it has done everything I've wanted to, so I totally understand why 16gb of Ram on a laptop might not be for everyone.
With that said if you can find it open box and can live with the 16gb of ram - i think it's a great deal.

Bestbuy serial #'s are tied back to Asus. I know some people wont care about the 3 month vs a year... But if I am shelling out 2k on a laptop, i want more than 3 months personally.
