I've bought two $5-10 floor pumps via this site... and I wish I hadn't.

I agree this pump is terrible. If it had a standard metal locking valve it would be ok.

So as a backup, it's still not good because of the part where it connects to the bike tube?

Cheap pumps just break and don't last

The T part when you push it down will eventually break if it's made of cheap plastic

If you need to go pass 50 PSI, this is not the pump for you.

Not debating this pump is junk, but I've had a Giant pump for 20 years with a plastic locking valve and it has never given me any trouble.

I have the Joeblow from Topeak and it's a great pump. I've used it heavily for well over 5 years and it's still going strong. Plastic valves for both presta and shrader. That's always the pump to buy when you can.

I have a very inexpensive no-name mini floor pump from Amazon (china) that works really well. All plastic. I leave it in the car and it's been solid for over 2 years and was under $10. That has a built in pressure gauge. You can get a decent plastic pump.
