As far as ease of learning, no. Acoustic guitars are harder to play, because you have to press down a lot harder. Your fingers are going to hurt a lot until you build calluses. However, if you stick with it and get good on an acoustic, it'll make electric that much easier. You barely have to press down on electric guitars. I've been playing for over 25 years and I still remember hating playing acoustic when I started out. I would have given up, had it not been for a friend getting an electric and letting me use it. Plenty of people do learn on acoustic, but it just wasn't for me back then.

It is the opposite of "perfect for beginners." The backup guitar part is accurate. Acoustics are much harder to learn on. The only good part about learning on acoustic is that it makes electric feel even easier.

Buying a cheap acoustic means you don't have to buy all the bits and pieces you'll need for an electric. If you don't have an amp, an electric sounds like trash. This package has pretty much everything you'll need to start playing and if you don't want to make the commitment to learn how to play, because of whatever reason, you're only down $121 +tax. There are some nice, cheap electric packages that have everything you need, and some of the cheap chineasy stuff is priced under this deal. Brand stuff like Squire will run you $300+. Or better yet, check CL or Faceplant market place.......lot of deals.

I've been playing for over 25 years. I'm very aware of what's out there, and that you need an amp for an electric. Lol. I was specifically talking about the ease of learning on an acoustic. They are not good for beginners.

Washburn is a good brand, but I didn't see any mention of wood or construction details.

Costco Canada has this

https://www.costco.ca/washburn-pr...76821.html

Looks like laminate maple top and Okoume back and sides. Most likely laminate everything.

I disagree fully. Everyone should learn on an acoustic. At least a little... No effects, no amp, no feedback... It strips down am instrument to what it is

Yeah, maybe in an ideal world. Learning guitar's hard enough, so starting with electrics makes it way more likely they'll keep playing.

Any electric guitar recommendations for beginners at this same price point?

My first acoustic like 18 years ago was a Washburn for $99 this is probably comparable and these guitars aren't usually made of the best materials but Washburn does a great job setting them up. Action is very good for this price range.

Bought one at Costco last year - clearance for $75 - for my winter place. Honestly love the guitar. Basic, cheap, no frills but feels good, stays in tune, sounds pretty good. Been playing for over fifty years and I've owned my share of crap. Great guitar for hauling around when you don't want to wreck your good ones. It ain't a Gibson or Martin, but I still like it.

I started on a Yamaha f800j. The first time I played an electric, I was having trouble not flexing the strings from how hard I pressed. Who needs a whammy bar when your fingers are hulked out? Anyway, it's possible to start on acoustic but you're right that it requires an extra level of commitment
