A convoluted story that makes little to no sense. It's held in such high regard 40 years later because:
1 - We get the symbiote suit origin story ( Secret Wars 8 was released in the fall of 1984, while Amazing Spider-Man 252 (first appearance of symbiote) was released in the Spring of 84, and readers were left confused for 6 months waiting for the origin story ASM referenced)
2 - Builds up Doctor Doom as the BIG BAD, surpassing Magneto and Galactus in the process.

This is a good price nonetheless, but new readers will be seriously let down.

Hey I've got Secret Wars series from the 80's, unfortunately everyone was collecting comics during that time so it's not very valuable.

It also doesn't help that they've almost all been reprinted, made available digitally, and some of the comics from that time were still being printed on paper that was damaged by the inks being used so they "blurred." It gave the comics a kind of cool smell though...

The HC version includes everything, but they cut out about 70 pages in the paperback version.

Secret Wars is only important for the origin of various post-war events, like Spider-Man's symbiote suit and The Thing leaving. It's basically the cliched battle world saga that most franchises have. Disney is hoping to boost sales of a comic series that's been out for 40 years to promote the movie that most likely won't even be faithful to its source material...
