To prevent cords from being stolen, put some tape around some sections of the cord. Thick enough to look like a repair.

People have left my "repaired" cords alone. Even found one sitting in a parking lot after it fell off my truck.
I grew up in a town with a Southwire factory. It's most definitely made in America! It's a family owned company as well.
You also need to factor in resistance over distance.

The longer the cord, the lower the peak.

Interesting that most extension cords don't specify the conductor material; are any copper anymore?
Know your requirement and realize a 12ga cord is over twice as heavy to physically carry and coil, I have both 12ga and 16ga and reach for the 16ga most of the time when just using to power a LED worklight or small tool.

i just noticed . i never paid attention to extension cord gauages until recently. Ive only ever had experience with construction materials like romex or mc cable. And 12-3 in terms of extension cord means 3 wires which includes the ground as opposed to 12-3 in romex means 4 wires and doesnt count the ground.

Would something like this be enough to use with a JBL Partybox Ultimate powered speaker? According to JBL, the speaker is 1100 watts.

The T stands for thermoplastic. No thanks, I'm past the "try to wrap up an impossibly stiff cord" part of my life.

Would that production have been in South, Central, or North America?

Yes, this extension cord can handle up to 15A; from what I can find, the PartyBox Ultimate draws only 180W of power at peak, which is less than 2A.
You'd be fine with a 16 gauge extension cord IMO, and it would be a lot easier to carry around and use.

Anyone remember whats the usual price for the 2 pack of 50' 12/3 extension cords at Costco? Going to need about 100' soon for a project and wondering if I should buy the Costco pack instead.

That doesn't seem correct. Somebody tested the draw on the Partybox 710 from the wall @346 watts with everything on (the 710 is rated 800 watts from the manufacturer).

The Partybox Ultimate is a MUCH larger speaker and rated at 1100 watts. It's definitely going to draw more power than the 710.

I agree it seems a bit low, but the only info I could find on actual power draw is from a JBL support answer on bb's product listing for the Ultimate. The PartyBox 1000's manual says it consumes 150W though, so 180W might be a decent estimate for the Ultimate. (source: https://www.jbl.com/on/demandware...ual_EN.pdf)

The only way to know for sure is to plug the speaker into a Kill A Watt type device, crank it up, and see what the max power consumption is in reality.

In any event, this extension cord should easily be able to handle the power draw of his speaker (even if it's 3-4A), and a 16 gauge should be enough as well.
