This is a nice little something to take your first step in the solar adventure and explore things like effective sun and charge limitations but I don't think it really has any practical use. You can get 100 w bifacial panels for $44 right now.
25 watt solar panel * 4 hours of sun = ~ 100 watt hours. That is basically the size of a lawn mower battery. 7ah * 12v = ~84 watt hours. You could keep lawnmower top off, power a small fountain pump, some led xmas light, an electric gate.
I think...more people would be willing to spend 45-50 USD to buy their 100W panel, this one is only 25W, even with those little accessories
Reasonable comment, but what I find attractive about this (I've bought 3) are:
- complete package (w/o battery): charge controller, multiple battery connection (ring terminals, alligator blips)
- compact package - could be readily moved around and easily take it on a camping trip or other outdoors outing
- panel has a flexible stand that collapses to an almost flat position framing the panel for transport
- uses SAE connectors for which there are a wide variety of options for connecting other things
The larger panels are more watts/$, but are not not as transportable and don't come with the accessories this panel kit has. I built a small battery box using plastic ammo-like boxes from Costco and a $12 (Amazon) Nilght USB/cigarette lighter plug/meter/switch panel, plus solar in and accessory out SAE plugs. Make a flexible container to hold the battery, charge controller and run/charge small devices (e.g., ham radio, USB powered devices).
I've also found that I can connect more than one of these panels in parallel with an SAE Y-connector to feed the charge controller.
I have a small shed in my backyard that doesn't have power run to it. I bought something similar to this, a small 12v 7ah battery, and some 12v led strips, plus a wall switch. Wired it all up and now have lights in the shed. I don't need very much power, just a few minutes. Total cost was about $80
