If you mean Double Edge by DE, I agree that is cheaper, but I have not been able to shave with DE without cutting myself and I have a very good adjustable handle for the DE razors. So, what's the secret?
It's been more than 6 ot 7 years since I started wearing a full beard now; wanted to age gracefully Before that, I used to shave clean.
So after using those Gillette one blade, two blade, three blade, five blade, 10 blade, not sure, I gave up because it was too expensive.
Thanks to SD, there was extensive- I mean seriously massive discussion happening on this forum where people swear by how cheap and good the DE blade shaving is and how good it is for skin and all, so some 10 or 12 years back, I switched to wet shaving with DE blade.
I cut myself so many times initially, tried many blades and handles.
Finally, I settled on a Feather DE Blade from Japan. The Japanese know how to make a sharp blade, and it was still my favorite. Also, after trying several handles, I settled on the Merkur Handle. After the initial cost of the Blades, BTW was very cheap, but Handle was a bit expensive. Still, overall, I used wet shaving with DE blade for almost 10 years and it save me not only tons of money, but, boy, every time I look forward to shaving like a morning ritual, it was fun, I have a good setup of Blade, Handle holder, lather and brush. You need to get used and then you will enjoy DE shaving a lot. Believe your skin with thank you later.
Also, once you go wet shaving with DE you won't go back to Gillette again.
I got these on Black Friday and regret the purchase. Unless you shave daily the blades get totally jammed with hair, and unlike the Dorco five blade system I was using before these, these ones are super difficult to clean the hairs out no matter which angles I put it under the running water, or how I tap/bang it on the basin. I'm tempted to call it a loss and just reorder more of my Dorcos.

These are the blades I've used for the last few years but I'm looking for a new system. These are so awful. I found a few gillette 5 blades in the bottom of my drawer that were half used and they were so much faster, smoother, and did not gunk up as much. I have very thick facial hair. I wish there was something as nice as gillette at this price but these aren't worth the 2nd tier smoothness and irritation.

Also, I have done the double edge. They're much much cheaper but ya'all are fooling yourself. It's way more work for the same outcome. I have several different handles that all promised to be the last one i'd buy. The best takeaway from all that is that you should use a lather brush. Work the foam up before you put it on your face and spread it out. You need less gel/foam than you think. That's part of what gunks these up.

6/10. Okay for price, but quality is mid.

FWIW: people who are trying to tell you to use a double-edged razor that's what my dad used for God's sakes. Are you that damn cheap? You can't afford a good razor. Just curious
It's just a different way of doing the same thing. Some people like all of the trappings of it, using different creams, brushes, blades, handles, etc. Some invest a lot of money and time into it, like a hobby. I think it's kind of fun, but I only use a DE a couple times a month like on a Saturday or something. Pushing the economics of DE isn't a very good argument. It's quite time consuming to do it right (and injury-free) versus using, say, a Fusion or Hydro. But if you think in terms of the, well, pageantry of it, and if that's your thing, then you have a good argument, but it would be a hard sell to people who just want to get it over with.

I don't just use these, I also use the cheaper 3 blade ones and even those work fine.

I watched a video years ago where a guy rubbed his thumb across the blades in the opposite direction of the shave before use to hone them like a knife and even cheapo blades like this have worked great for me ever since.
It's called stropping, and I run it against my forearm to do so.

FWIW...picked a Cremo razor, extra blades and shave cream in a package for $12 at TJ Maxx. I'm an old man so I've been shaving for a long time. These are the best I've used.

I use gillette skinguard - is this comparable? If not, does Amazon have a comparable version? I don't care about the brand as long as I get a similar result.

Thanks in advance

Great pick. The Cremo system uses the Schick Hydro 5 cartridge, which has been discussed in this thread. You can use Hydro 5 refills on this handle, a very nice handle!

SkinGuard is optimized for comfort, especially for shavers whose skin is highly sensitive. I haven't tried the disposable yet, but the cartridge-type (which is significantly different from the disposable version), provides a good shave in its own right. If it's the closest shave you are looking for, you might consider giving one of the five-blade models available a try. The Amazon cartridges offered here are the Personnas, which are widely used as house brands, for example, the Walmart Equate 5 blade. Opinions about it, as you can see, vary. Schick Hydro 5, Gillette Fusion, BIC, Harry's (I think) and Dorco all offer a five blade version that you can try.

I tried 'em all and gillette fusion 5 is the best balance of close shave and longevity of the blade.

I'm not aware of anything. It's definitely a unique design. The closest thing I can think of would be house brand four blade razors like https://www.walgreens.com/store/c...11-product . Walmart used to sell them as "The Stylish 4 Blade" but discontinued them. Other drugstore chains may sell them as well. Basically, what they are is re-branded Schick Quattro cartridges. You can tell by the distinctive perpendicular wires across the blades. You might not be able to see them because of the packaging, but check the back of the package. If it says the cartridges are made in Germany, those are the Quattros. The little wires lift the blades just slightly off the skin, not really affecting shaving performance but lessening irritation. Of course you can just buy the Schick Quattro, but those house brands usually cost less even though they're the same product. Note that Quattros are for daily shaving. More than a couple day's growth and you'll get clogging issues due to the design. (The design of the Gillette Skinguard makes it less prone to clogging because it has only two blades). Also note that Quattro cartridges will fit the Amazon MotionSphere handle being offered here.

You can call me lazy, but at under a buck for a 5 blade cartridge (Perplexity says national average now is $5 for women's and $4 for men's), even if I get 4 shaves, without shaving off any moles or bloodshed, I am willing to part with even the shiniest quarter for the privilege. And it will ship in a couple days with the rest of my S&S...happy customer.
