Considering this is not the 2024 Qm8 that does 5000 nits of peak brightness I would go with the U8N. I bought it 3 weeks ago for $1800 at Best Buy. It is currently on sale for $100 less. The U8N is amazing and plenty bright. Picture is solid after calibrating and feeding it HDR. PC and PS5 gaming at 144hz is awesome too. If you are looking to pay less you could go with the TCL QM7 for $1400 which I read is a great TV or you can wait for the new TCL 2025 Mini LED sales

I bought this back in May for $1500 and am very satisfied. TV is massive and brightness/contrast is reasonable for the size/price. Picture quality is lacking compared to my LG C1 but brightness is on another level. Motion handling is a bit iffy but hard to tell if that's due to streaming services quality or TV's processing features.

As an aside, mounting an 85" TV so the center is at eye level brings the bottom of the TV close to the floor, I had to mount it 6 inches higher than ideal to fit my equipment.

Bought the 65" version of the QM8 about a year ago. Quite happy with it, overall. Android TV has been an unexpected delight, given how many complaints I used to hear about it. I've even played with setting it up as a SteamLink receiver (spoilers: I don't recommend it).

Got this TV from Amazon last summer. Has been a great screen for the price. High brightness so it still looks good in the game room despite lots of windows.

Iirc, they didn't increase the number of zones (or whatever) between the 85" and the 98"...so there's a bit of an inconsistency between going from 75" ~> 85" Vs. 85" ~> 98"
(Don't think it's a deal breaker, just something I noticed when researching this model a while ago)

You are correct, but with a $600 price difference this QM850G is still a good buy in it's own right…

Rtings.com comparison write up:
"The TCL QM8/QM851G QLED is a bit better than the TCL QM8/QM850G QLED. The QM851G has better contrast, so it displays deeper blacks in a dark room, with a bit less blooming. The QM851G also gets brighter in HDR, so very bright highlights stand out a bit more on it. Additionally, the QM851G has better pre-calibration SDR accuracy, slightly better upscaling, and its color volume is a bit better. However, the QM850G has better PQ EOTF tracking, so it displays a more accurate image in HDR."

Personally I would spend the extra $200 currently and get the Sony X90L

I want to see how people are going to be bringing so large TVs through corridors and doors. At that point, it is larger than a king-sized mattress, and you can't bend it. Takes like 3-4 people to lift, and is super fragile due to so large and thin glass.
