I want to get this, but the last atomic drill i have destroyed first gear will minimal use and light work after two years. Now it only works in second gear. I think I'll wait for a deal in the XR models. Seems like an okay price though.

Id set up a DeWalt deal alert and wait. I wouldnt buy any tool only stuff until you have at least 1 battery. I also wouldn't personally mix and match systems. If you already have batteries and tools from a system, I'd stick with that and not let a deal force you to mix and match.

I have the dcd709, and it skips with large spade bits. It has done so since day one, but it works fine with all other jobs.

Well after all thst I ended up returning this drill and the battery kit I also got from home depot. Too many complaints about the fast gear failing. Ended up getting this compact xr kit (dcd800) from ace for 50 bucks more than I paid for the atomic and battery kit (170 vs 120). It's twice as powerful and comes with an extra battery and bag. https://www.acehardware.com/depar...4861&gQT=2
