And even after you finish the campaigns, there is a lifetime of custom maps that you can download completely free.
If you do not want to take the custom map road;
There are actually two "chapters" of extra downloadable content/mods that you should check out. I copied and pasted these from Wiki, they do a better job of explaining. Both of these are free btw:
1. In the Wake of Gods (WoG): Released in 2001, WoG introduced numerous features, including new creatures, artifacts, and the innovative ERM scripting language, allowing players to modify game mechanics and create custom scenarios. 2. Horn of the Abyss (HotA): Announced in 2008 and first released in 2011, HotA is a comprehensive fan-made expansion that adds new town types, creatures, artifacts, and playable campaigns. Notably, it introduced the "Cove" faction and has continued to receive updates, with the latest major version released on January 1, 2024, adding a new town and several maps. The expansion also features music composed by Paul Romero, the original composer for the series.
