Stove top. 1 part oats to 2 parts water/milk. Add pinch of salt and spoon of sugar. Bring to boil. Cook while stirring for about 15 min. Eat fresh or store for later. Super easy.

For extra toasty taste, first mildly brown oats with butter before adding liquid.
I've been using my Instant Pot for steel cut oats. 1:1, pot-in-pot, 12 minutes, natural release. I wouldn't even attempt stovetop cooking.

Excuse me waiter... With which metal alloy were these oats cut with? Steel? Excellent, yes I'll have the oats.

Buy large package, such as Bob's Red Mill, to save money. Unless you collect steel cans.

Bought a can for 2.37 on clearance at my Safeway when they were remodeling. Left the others because they were dented. When I went back to get a few more after the weekend they were all gone. Haven't tried it yet. Still eating the Bobs from all the recent deals.

I have made this oatmeal probably 1000 times in the last 10 years so my method has become deranged but:
  • Bring 1.5 cup skimmed milk and 0.5 cup water to a boil
  • Add 0.5 cup and boil for 5 minutes
  • Reduce heat and simmer for ~20 minutes or until it reaches desired thickness. Stir every few minutes, do other kitchen chores
  • If it starts sticking, reduce heat temporarily or add water and stir
  • Serve with bananas and any berries on hand. Brown sugar if you want it sweeter
