On 40 series the 4080 mobile was in between a 3080 and 4070 desktop, at least according to Jarrod's Tech [jarrods.tech]. Since efficiency gains will not improve by much because they are still using the same node, I highly doubt there will be as much of an improvement as the 4080 was to the 3080.
The desktop variants need more power for 50 series and the node size is same as 40 series so without extra power, it likely won't be significantly better. This is why Nvidia is leaning heavy on 50 series exclusive frame gen and DLSS 4. From what I saw, you can actually run DLSS4 newer transformer model on older RTX devices

I haven't read the desktop vs laptop comparison in a while but I believe it was around a 3090 and it was specifically for the lenovo legion IIRC
