Not sure why this is getting many upvotes, I don't think this is worth any more than like $120 tops (not a bad tool, just can get cheaper very often)

WITH DCB208(8ah 18650 cell) battery for $199
HACKED for $99.50 (IN-STORE ONLY)

Just take a look at depth of cut (both normal & 45°) and make your judgment there based on what you think you might be cutting.
Neither will really have much of an issue with power. Most saws like this are going to be quite power hungry and do better with large batteries. I have this saw (DCB565) and have no issues with it and it's also a bit smaller & lighter than a 7¼" would be.

Click on that link, see that free item? It's a BOGO thing, you can get both online if you want both but if you only want one you have to buy IN-STORE ONLY and return the unwanted item (IN-STORE rings up each item at a prorated price)

This can also be done at some other retailers, some easier (some similar or even harder), Home Depot being one of them that's easier...

comment about depth of cut is right on…if you are new to sawing, you will appreciate the lighter tool …it will work great even with big projects I've always wanted the larger saw though if were I to consider higher volume work, I'd skip the 7 inch and get the 12 inch compound double bevel sliding miter saw with stand which always goes on sale around Black Friday…if you have worn out a blade on the 6 1/2 inch saw by T-day graduate to the 12 inch slider… Merry Christmas to you

I really wouldn't consider a miter saw as a replacement for this... If anything I'd go towards a table saw be a replacement for a circular, but still not really.
Miter saw is great for cross cuts, maybe 16"-ish across (I forget around what they actually are). Table saws are for long straight cuts and with as sled can be made to work with cross cuts well (still not as good as the miter saw though).
Circular saw can really be used for either situation but also in remote locations, attics, different orientations. Best when the workpiece may now be easy to move around.

Is it really as simple as that? I really just need the circular saw. They have both in stock at my local Lowe's store, so just go in person and ring both the circular saw and battery up. Then I can just immediately return the battery, the returns/customer service people won't give you any gruff over returning just the battery?

Basically, I've gone straight over (without even exiting store) with the other item still in my hand and I've gone to set down the tool I'm keeping in my car and walk right back in to customer service. I prefer setting it down in my car, then there's no question of if I want to return that item too.
As a check, when you ring up IN-STORE it should have a price for EACH item. As long as it shows up like that, you should be able to return individual items.
Another post recently I told someone this and they confirmed it was just as easy for them as well.

Both of the Lowe's I went to rejected my battery return. Told me I have to return both.
