I've never had one I liked, but the last time I tried was 5+ years ago. How do these models compare to the latest (ex. Eufy s1 pro)
how good is the obstacle avoidance? Dog toys, rugs, thresholds?

Obstacle avoidance is a higher tier feature. You will need to check item details to see if it is included or not.

I currently have the S5 which was bought in 2019 - at this point it probably has close to 1500 hours of cleaning logged, it's been great but it is starting to have issues, primarily around charging and battery life. I'm looking at the Q8 Max and the S8 Max - they seem pretty similar in features & price, what would you get?
