Amazon has Discovery Kids #MINDBLOWN Plasma Globe Lamp for $13.98. Shipping is free w/ Prime or on $35+.

Thanks to Deal Hunter doublehelixx for finding this deal.

Features:
  • The Discovery Plasma Orb emits electric currents that dance energetically around the inside of the globe! Place your fingers on the globe's surface and watch as the tendrils of light follow your touch!
  • The tendrils of light appear in shades of pink and purple and react to both touch and sound. The built-in sound sensor responds to your voice, music, and other sound effects, so try speaking or playing your favorite songs for an out-of-this-world experience!
  • Learn about noble gases and their interaction with electricity with the educational Discovery Plasma Orb! The Tesla coil in the center emits high voltage alternating electric currents through the plasma, composed of noble gases. This combination produces the exciting colorful effects you can see, because your touch creates a discharge path for the electricity and light to follow.
  • No batteries are required for operation of the Discovery Plasma Orb. Simply connect the lamp to a wall outlet with the included power adapter and watch as the lamp sparks to life!
  • The plasma orb is not a toy and is intended for older children

Space mostly lol. I currently have a Squishmallow, some cat figures, and a Hello Kitty figure. I run a dual monitor setup as well.

OK, I get that... obviously Hello Kitty stays, and I don't know the specifics of the cat figures... so that means the Squishmallow gets demoted to a shelf somewhere.

I will have to deciding on whether my bonsai garden goes (nope), led waterfall over rocks thingie (nope), skeletor, ironman, or lego mini millennium falcon with hans solo lego dude sitting on top. I think it is solo and probably iron man both have to go Frown, at least until this thing breaks laugh out loud.

So you are about the right age. When my friend got his sub box it had a plexiglass window. I wanted to put one of these in it that was sound activated so that when the base hit it would turn on. Got veto'ed by owner. (Got one 30ish years later. No regrets.)

for office desk at work people love this thing

The dimensions taken from a Kohl's [kohls.com] listing suggest the globe should be 6 inches in diameter,

Good luck!
