Ordered from Target. Delivery scheduled Mar 30. Amazon had a much later delivery date. Target Card has 5% discount and same with Amazon Store Card with 5% back. Only big diff is Amazon has 30 days return and Target would be 60-90 days return with Target card/360 Membership.

I just got a 6 TB HDD. I have SSD's now but they probably totally to be about 4TB and I am running up against that. Instead of deleting games and looking around to see what I can shave I am going to move all my old games and media files to the HDD, this has been great so far, opens up so much space. I'll just keep the newer games on the SSD's and the older stuff will go to HDD.

Where and when? Because 4TB drives are going for quite a bit more every where I have looked in the last day or two. the 4TB version of this drive is currently showing ~124$ reg price. This is certainly a better deal than that.

If I could find 4TB drives for 60$ id be all over those, but that doesn't appear to be current reality.

As far as how long these have been on the market:
I needed a drive to offload action cam footage for an upcoming trip, so I picked one of these up yesterday. It definitely is an older model. It is not USBC, the current model of this on WD's site shows c port but this comes with the USB 3.2 Gen1/USB 3.0 - the cable that comes with it is USB A port on pc side and is the one that looks like micro usb w/ an extra connector next to it on the drive side. I was not overly pleased to find this when opening it up expecting usbc.

Also, I plugged it in and ran some smart tests and got a few things showing pre-fail, everything that isnt pre-fail is showing old age as the status. So at least for me I got a drive that has been sitting on a shelf for some time. Working fine so far will likely run a few tests on it.
Haven't decided yet if I should return it, but figured id give others a heads up.

These smaller hard drives seem to getting worse and worse in terms of value for money (and possibly even increasing in price); I imagine the glut of cheap SSDs has enticed the people looking for smaller storage drives to their much faster speeds (and physical durability), and the data hoarders have moved to the 20+TB high-density HDDs, which has left these <10TB drives in an awkward spot.

Be aware, these drives are SMR.

You're misunderstanding. "Pre-fail" and "old age" are not the status, they're the classification of that particular attribute. Every SMART attribute falls into one of those two categories. "Old age" attributes are only informational and will never result in the drive reporting itself as failing/failed. Pre-fail attributes will, depending on their normalized values. If the current value falls below the threshold, the drive will report itself as failing now. If the worst value is below the threshold (but not the current value), the drive will be considered as having failed in the past. The status of these values is particularly significant for warranty service.

This is a portable HDD. So it's a 2.5" HDD at a pretty massive 6TB. No other manufacturer has one that size right now. It came out like a year or two ago max.

Before anyone asks, no it cannot be shucked, it has a soldered on USB interface and it's a 15mm tall drive, so it's not likely to fit most enclosures/laptops/etc even if it could be shucked.
