Have this and am very pleased. Installed in an old home (2 story, 3/4 conditioned attic, full conditioned basement, ~3500sqft total) with a single zone AC/furnace, and I'm up to 6 smartsensors + the thermostat. Really helps me balance dampers to keep comfortable across seasons, and I like the occupancy sensing and ability to tune which sensors apply when we are home/away. Example - when we are away for a week or more in the winter, I can lower the temp for vacation mode but use the basement sensor to make sure temps inside don't drop to levels that would risk pipes freezing.

I also installed one in a rental home, and it's been great for monitoring performance of our aging heat pump. I got alerts when it was running emergency heat for extended periods, letting us replace a faulty evap core before the whole system was cooked ($1500 repair vs. $8-10k replacement). Totally paid for itself there.

I have 1 AC in 2050 sq ft house single story. Are sensors useful? If yes, should I place them in different bedrooms to balance our the cooling?

Debating to jump on this deal vs buying the thermostat from utility company at $210 (without sensors).

I have the same size house and have sensors in every room. I have the ecobee set for nonbedroom sensors during the day and bedroom sensors at night. This makes sure it is averaging and maintaining the temp I want in the rooms I am in.

Plus i can use the sensors to try and balance the dampers on the air handler to ensure each room is not to hot or to cold.

You have dampers connected to the Ecobee sensors? Can you share more about your setup?

It will average the sensors you have selected and work to maintain that average temperature. If you only select one sensor for it to focus on during a schedule it will ignore all other sensor temperatures.

I have manual valves that I can adjust that are installed off the air handler and go to each room. See below for an example.
