How it works:
Purchase an eligible ASUS product between 17th of February 2025 and 31st of March 2025.
Fill out the required information on the entry form and upload your invoice between 21st of February and 31st of March 2025.
After reviewing and approving your application, ASUS will send you your Game Code (PC) via email. You can then redeem the code on store.steampowered.com
(Validation takes up to 20 working days)

The ASUS site is already showing CLOSED - highly suggest not buying at this point

I purchased this router a few months back. Would constantly drop signal to random devices. Updated the software, but it still had the same issues. Cpu usage was very unusual, with 3 of 4 cores constantly hitting 100% with no use. Going back and forth, trying to reset and setting up again, had no difference. Ended up returning it.

I had two of these routers with ethernet backhaul at home. The latest firmware (beginning of March) update fixed these issues - no cpu cores hit 100% ever. No problem with 40+ devices and no drops. Turning off MLO also helps compatibility with older IoT WiFi devices. The only drawback was range is limited compared to other higher end routers. You have to be close to the router to get good signal. I ended up selling these and am running ubiquiti now.

Wifi 7 is very new and a lot of companies are working through compatibility issues. That's the price of being on the cutting edge. But firmware updates are coming fast. Asus was releasing a new firmware every 2 weeks for this router. They are definitely working hard on it.

This issue was resolved in February.

Thanks. Was curious if you tried another ASUS router and it worked better. Hope the Google Mesh is working well for you.

Is eero 6E mesh system still the best bang for buck? Seems WiFi 7 way too expensive still.

The CPU spike issue was resolved back in February—agreed. However, in my experience (I own three of these), even after a full factory reset, updating to the latest firmware, and setting everything back up, I still encountered random drops and disconnects. This persisted despite following all the common advice: disabling every bell and whistle, avoiding MLO, and not enabling WiFi 7—which, ironically, is one of the main reasons to buy this router. These issues would typically resurface within 24–48 hours.

That said, a new firmware update was released just a couple of days ago. I'll go through the full reset and setup process again and report back with my results.

Did you enable the "Eco" mode setting? That's supposed to make it rock solid at the expense of some VPN performance.

I also suspect the router shipped with an under spec power supply, so it might be worth trying one that handles slightly more milliamps.

It should be getting third party firmware support at some point, which will probably resolve some issues as well.

Looks like there is a Merlin beta version out ... 3006.102.4-beta1 [asuswrt-merlin.net] ... now we're talking. If we get this thing stable the ports alone could be worth it. A bit early to tell.

All of the mentioned firmware did not work either. I confirmed on two separate ones. Asus admitted on the phone today this router has lots of complaints for all the issues listed here, the negative reviews on Amazon, and the negative reviews on Best Buy. The wifey hates dropouts during Zoom calls! Going to return it as the Zentalk.Asus forum beta firmware was the only 50% stable one, while official and the Merlin ones were intolerable.
