So 2 issues.
1) I prefer to be able to move things without leaving adhesive behind
2) The magnetic latching was so weak the weight of a longer cable would open it and the cable would fall on the floor.
I solved my cable issue with these:

They allow you to tighten the strap around any cable and they hold it tight. They also have a magnet on the end that is strong enough to stick to something while holding the cable. I have a wire mesh organizer that I stick them to until needed. They also come with adhesive disks that you can stick to a not metalic surface and then use the magnet on them.
Better options and better retention.
