PSA: Looks like total wireless changed the policy from 60 days after activation to 60 days of active service. This went in to effect April 1st 2025.

Good phone and good deal.

The a35 is good, and is likely the last of the "good" Samsung a-series phones with an SD slot. The a36 and a56 don't have them.

I got the previous (nearly identical) a54 deal and was very happy with it. The two phones are architecturally almost identical (same processors and ram). It's not a speed demon, but is fast enough to do all "normal" stuff, like social media, email, phone, etc... without any real performance problems. Maybe a gamer would be disappointed with it, and it will be getting OneUI 7 very, very soon.

Wow.

Porting in a number is a hassle -- if you don't already have a phone number.

The whole ID verification is just...how do the kids say it nowadays...."totes wack".

No idea how they're storing your image and credentials -- or who has access to them -- or what the process is for them to expunge that data -- or who is ensuring they're following best practices.

Oh who am I kidding, your DL and image are being sold to the highest bidder. We all know that.

I got the iPhone 14 plus deal last month and just did this deal as a 2nd line today. I only had the options of $55 or $65 plan for my 2nd line. The lower price add-a-line only shows up after you have a $55 or $65 plan in your cart.
Interesting, so you were able to change the first month plan to a $30 plan after you put the more expensive plan in your cart?

I got the A35 early february and tuesday was my 60days. phone showed network lock status as -unlocked in 'more connection settings". I rebooted with a working sim and calls and internet worked fine. I guess if you did purchase it before the unlock policy change you can still unlock it with just 30days paid service/60 days total.

I think it's been possible for some but others are being told they need to purchase another month - don't know if it's uninformed reps or messed up computer systems. Doesn't seem to be consistent.

Here's the link to FCC...
https://consumercomplaints.fcc.go...int-Issues

FCC forwards your complaint to TW, and the TW- Govt Affairs dept called me back the next day. My case is not resolved yet, as it's escalated to another dept.

Note: I feel I have a valid claim since I bought and activated my 2 Samsung A35 phones in Feb, and so the new unlocking policy effective 1 April should NOT apply to me.
Thank you for the link. I've just submitted my complaint—now I'll wait and see what happens.

My complaint is similar to yours. My Edge reached its 60-day mark yesterday and did not unlock. I called the unlocking department, and they told me that I need to satisfy the new unlocking policy...

No, I now have a $65 plan on my phone that I activated 2 weeks ago, and I selected the less expensive $55 plan for the phone I ordered today. I called after placing the order, and the CSR told me after the phone arrives I should call & they will credit me the $25. We'll see...

That's not the way it usually works. I've had the discounted plan applied right away when ordering 2nd phone.

I agree. They could probably do it if you order over the phone, but I didn't see a way to do it online unless you buy 2 lines at the same time.

In order to use your TW phone on TFone network aka "rebranding", you have to buy a new BYOD SIM card from TFone and then activate it as your own device. Keep paying for 2 months on $10 plan. After 61 days try to reach out to customer care and try your luck.
Be careful on the rebranding. You do NOT want to bring the phone over as BYOD. BYOD phones are treated as 3rd party phones not eligible for unlocking. When you rebrand, you want them to rebrand the phones as Tracfone phones so that you can activate them as Tracfone phones without needing a separate BYOD SIM. After activating as Tracfone phone, the unlock clock starts.

Agree. In the past I've always used original sim & activated other TF brands out of the box as a TF - but since they started requiring purchase of plan with phone it doesn't seem worth it because you lose the plan (not transferable) & need to buy new plan.

I hope you don't mind if I ask whether you were charged tax on the iPhone 14 Plus? Also, are you charged on your new 2nd phone prorated until the service end date for your 1st phone, so that the service plans will have the same start and end dates when you refill the plans for the next 30 days period? Thanks!

I wasn't charged tax on either phone purchase, but it showed taxes in the plan purchases that were built into the $65 and $55 charges. For the iphone deal it was $264.99 (199.99 for the phone) total, and the A35 was $55 total. They didn't prorate anything, but when I talked to customer service after I placed the online order, they said there would be a credit in my wallet on my account. Not sure if they really know what they're talking about, but I think it will be prorated based on when I actually activate the phone.

In your case, you could show them the TW policy using way back machine to see that at least until April 5th, the 60 day active policy wasn't there.

They're going to go by the latest 4/1/25 updated policy, lots of outdated info hasn't been removed from web.

I just found that I couldn't buy this Galaxy A35 for free but full price, when I am an existing customer with one line and want to add the second line with port-in, is this a new after the unlock policy change, or did I miss something? I heard many people bought the second phone for free with one month service(now two month to unlock) but now it looked to me the free phone only applies to new customer... Thanks!

Yes that's seems true. I tried recently on an existing account and even though the page said free phone, after I added the phone to my cart, it showed full price.
