I assume nothing has changed with these not working well for ceilings higher than -- say -- 12 or 15 feet?

Is there any advantage to these types of reflecting speakers over?
1) Bookshelf speakers placed on cabinets just below the ceiling and aimed toward listening area
2) Front (in line with mains) ceiling speakers

I've already got surround rear (side) and surround rear (back). Do these add anything and would I then need a 9.2 receiver?
