I'm not shopping today. At least no with coupons. I'm taking a break, but now that I know my grandbaby is a girl, I might just find myself at Target anyway combing through the clearance racks. OMG this baby is gonna have alot of stuff LMAO

Wave Happy Monday everyone! Anyone shopping today? I'm usually a strict, no shopping on Monday gal, but I think because it's a day off for most maybe there will be some good cashiers working. Of course, shopping would require me to get dressed. laugh out loud

I am hoping for good cashiers today too...however, getting showered and dressed seems like way too much work right at the moment. lol
I should get my butt in gear though....need to stock up on food.
I should probably try to run out today and get the rest of my Schick Hydro razors....I went last week and my oh-so-clever cashier DID NOT EVEN SCAN the TQ's. She obviously knew they would give overage so she scrolled through the list on the screen and typed the price in for each oneAnnoyed I had plenty of other stuff in my order so she just knew. Gonna hope for a better cashier this week.

GS this weekend Whee

I SO did not realize how many clothes DD had from 0-18 mos. Faint My mom and I went through and marked everything yesterday. Now my sale will be about 50/50 stockpile and baby stuff. I am kind of glad - between that and my location and all the advertising I am hoping to attract quite a few people. Weather's looking good right now too!

The pie I made yesterday was a result of having buttermilk in the fridge from another dish I had made. So to use it up I made a buttermilk pie (some call it chess pie). It doesn't sound great but it is creamy sweetness heaven.
To me, chess and buttermilk pie are different, as there's no buttermilk in REAL chess pie. My Lord, it's sweet, but delicious Eat

With all this talk about cornbread, I have to wonder... why does my cornbread always turn out so crumbly? Is that the way it's supposed to be? I use Martha White mix, and sometimes Jiffy mix. Still crumbly.
Ladycat is right-good Southern cornbread should choke you if you make a mistake and inhale while taking a bite...asking me how I know this Blush3

stop by anytime hug I always have room for one more. The pie I made yesterday was a result of having buttermilk in the fridge from another dish I had made. So to use it up I made a buttermilk pie (some call it chess pie). It doesn't sound great but it is creamy sweetness heaven, especially with the tartness of the blackberries in the topping I made. It's a very quick pie to make too, with few ingredients. So drop on by for a slice, the coffee's on!

I usually use bacon. If I have hamhocks I'll use them, but bacon works just fine. And Dia, it doesn't matter that we are having pork chops too. Can't have too much yummy good flavoring LMAO

Try adding the sage as tootsie posted. It's yummy and congrats on the grandson!! Sorry I can't help with the formula, it's been too long since I bought any of that laugh out loud

weirdness.

On the great cornbread debate laugh out loud

I'm southern, and true southern cornbread does not have sugar in it. When we put sugar in the mix, we bake it in muffin tins and call it cornbread muffins.

The secret to good cornbread is two things IMO. A VERY hot cast iron skillet, and bacon grease. The skillet should be put in a hot oven while you are making the mix (like 400 -425*) with the bacon grease in it. When you pour the cornbread batter in the skillet it should sizzle. The result will be cornbread that is crispy on the edges. Southern cornbread is dense, not light and fluffy. For that, try cornbread muffins (Jiffy mix). Some recipes for cornbread will call for just corn meal and no flour, but I prefer a little flour in mine...ie 1 1/2 cups cornmeal to 1/2 cup flour.

Another dish we have alot is Red Rice. It seems to be a very local dish to SC, GA. I'm curious if Tootsie has heard of/made this. It's a staple here at any church social, family reunions, etc and oh so good!
Perfect. Nothing like those edges sizzling Faint I don't know of red rice. Maybe it's a SC thing being rice country in those areas. We do a lot of red eye gravy and tomato gravy over bisquits here. Not a lot of rice dishes aside from those that came over from NOLA. Gumbo, dirty rice, red beans and rice, etc. We are BIG fans of 'Nawlin's cooking yummy

Spaghetti Works in the Old Market Area
http://www.spagworks.com/lincoln.aspx

Mahoney State Park
http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/par...rea_No=273
Has a great Lodge and cabins at a reasonable rate. On southern edge of Omaha Metro making it a shorter ride to and from KC. They also have a great aquatic center and indoor play area (Think McDonalds playland on steroids) and are close to:
Platte River State Park http://outdoornebraska.ne.gov/par...rea_No=224
Strategic Air & Space Museum http://www.strategicairandspace.com/
LG Simmons Conservation Park & Wildlife Safari http://www.omahazoo.com/index.php...lifesafari

The Safari Park is owned by the Omaha Zoo but is not at it's main location. I've not been there yet and am not sure if the regular Zoo admission includes free admission to the Safari Park as well or if there is a special combo ticket price.

right, but alot of people think they are the same thing. I prefer buttermilk pie, and yes, it's soooo sweet but soooo yummy. I'm using up the rest of the buttermilk and the extra pie shell to bake one for work tomorrow. Nothing like getting a bunch of psychiatrists on a sugar high Roll
