warranty: 2 years
Power-On Hours (per year) 2400 = 100 days per year - so not for NAS

*sigh* Literally browsing for a replacement hard drive after my Seagate EXOS died exactly 1 day after warranty expiration.

Contact Seagate ASAP. I've had the replace drives just outside the window. Also check your credit card. Many extend the warranty.

The price *is* good, but some preliminary research indicates that the speed and reliability of these drives may be lacking:

The price I get is $10.42 per TB. You take $249.99/24 =10.41625 rounded up is $10.42 and that doesn't count for tax depending on where you are. Here is 6% for another $15 making it $11.04 roughly per TB which is still a good price.

That's correct because if it was for NAS you would be paying double or triple. But for something that you're going to dump into an external encase, or a docking station and run rsync to back up your backup and it's only going to be turned on for 3 hours once a week to do incremental backup should be okay...
I was thinking the same. BUT. There's a reason Seagate decided to give only 2 years warranty on these. And severely limit use time... Seagate knows something we don't.

They know enterprise drives cost more.

If consumer drives held up, companies would be gobbling them up on the cheap.

You always need to backup your data.

Fine for cold storage or maybe even a secondary NAS but that's about it.

prices are dropping, yet 20tb refurbs from serverpartdeals are still like $240? What gives? I've been upgrading/filling with 20tbs. 24Tb is nice, but i don't want to have to buy 24tb parities.
